Michael S. Hope is an American politician and member of the Republican Party from the state of Washington. He served as a member of the Washington House of Representatives,representing the 44th district.
Hope was born in Cleveland Ohio and graduated with a B.A. in Sociology from John Carroll University and an M.A in Policy Studies at the University of Washington. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1994 to 2001. [1]
A former Seattle police officer, [2] he was first elected to the State House in 2008,narrowly defeating Democratic incumbent Liz Loomis. A moderate Republican,he was easily re-elected in 2010 and 2012. In 2013,he was the lone House Republican to support a bill expanding background checks on most sales of private handguns.
In 2011,he ran for Snohomish County Executive but was defeated by Democratic incumbent Aaron Reardon. [3] Hope,who was not running for re-election in 2014,resigned on July 24 after the revelation that he has been registered to vote in both Washington and Ohio since 2013. [4]
Hope has also worked as a personal trainer.

Jean Louise Berkey was an American politician who served as a Washington State Senator from Washington's 38th legislative district from 2005 to 2011. Her career ended due to the Moxie Media scandal:in the 2010 primary election,her fellow Democrat,Nick Harper,bankrolled ads for a third candidate in an effort to "Squeeze The Middle" and prevent the moderate incumbent Berkey from running in the general election. The state's election watchdog committee unanimously voted to refer the case to the state Attorney General Rob McKenna,who promptly "filed suit,alleging multiple campaign-finance violations." Berkey placed third in the primary,and despite a call several former state senators to hold another election,was prevented from running in the general election per Washington state's 'top two' primary system. Her term ended in January 2011.
Douglas R. Roulstone is a former United States Navy officer. He served for two months in the Washington House of Representatives. A Republican,he was appointed on September 26,2014,by Governor Jay Inslee to serve out the unexpired term of Mike Hope,who resigned in July. He was local Republican leaders' third choice for appointment to Hope's seat. He served until the certification of Mark Harmsworth as the winner of the November 4,2014,general election,on November 25.
