History

In 2012, physicians Shikhar Saxena and Abe Schumacher partnered to purchase Milan Laser Hair Removal (formerly Milan Laser Aesthetics), establishing the company with four employees in Papillion, Nebraska. [4] [5] [6]

Originally a multi‑service clinic, Milan focused exclusively on laser hair removal in 2014. [3] The company launched its Unlimited Package, unlimited lifetime treatments for a single up front price, setting it apart from competitors that still sell three‑ to six‑session bundles. [3] [4] [7]

Milan Laser Hair Removal's treatments are performed by medically-trained staff, each clinic employs nurses, overseen by physicians, to customize laser settings for individual skin tones and hair colors. [5] The company uses the Candela GentleMax Pro laser, which combines 755 nm Alexandrite and 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelengths, suitable for a wide range of skin tones. [8]

Milan Laser expanded through the mid-2010s, into Iowa, Colorado and Missouri. [5] In 2019, private equity firm Leonard Green & Partners invested a majority stake in the company. [9] Bloomberg noted in 2021 that the Leonard Green–backed company had filed confidentially for an initial public offering. [10] [11] The registration was later withdrawn. [12] [13]

On February 22, 2023, Milan received a strategic growth-equity investment from Sixth Street Partners and Wildcat Capital Management [14] Existing investor, Leonard Green & Partners, L.P. (“LGP”), along with the co-founders, will retain a majority interest in the company. [14] Advisory firm Latham & Watkins represented Milan Laser in the transaction. [14]

Community initiatives

In 2022, Milan Laser helped fund a new technology lab at Nelson Mandela Elementary School in North Omaha, part of a broader initiative to improve student access to educational tools and digital learning environments. [15] In 2024, Milan partnered with Military Makeover with Montel (Lifetime TV) to provide complimentary lifetime laser hair removal to a veteran family and to highlight a standing military discount. [16]
