Mildred Coughlin (1892-1984) was an American artist known for painting, illustration, and printmaking. [1]

Biography

Coughlin was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on July 16, 1892. She studied at Wellesley College, the École des Beaux-Arts, and Art Students League of New York. In 1924 she married the playwright Patterson McNutt. [2] The couple settled in California in the 1930s. Coughlin depicted various aspects of life in Los Angeles, often humorously. [1] Her subjects include Hollywood movie-making, the Santa Anita racetrack, and the Los Angeles Farmers Market. [2]

Coughlin exhibited her work at the California Society of Etchers (now the California Society of Printmakers, the Chicago Society of Etchers, the Society of American Etchers, and the Southern Printmakers. [2]

Coughlin died in Sonoma, California on December 3, 1984. [2] Her work is in the Smithsonian American Art Museum, [3] the National Gallery of Art, [4] as well as the Library of Congress, [5] and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. [6]

Lucy May Stanton American painter

Lucy May Stanton was an American painter. She made landscapes, still lifes, and portraits, but Stanton is best known for the portrait miniatures she painted. Florence Esté American painter

Alice Kent Stoddard (1883–1976) was an American painter of portraits, landscapes, and seascapes. She lived and painted on Monhegan Island in Maine, an enclave of artists. During World War II, she worked as a combat artist and drafted designs for airplanes. She was active with the Richmond Printmaking Workshop and served on the Advisory Board of Studio Two-Three in Richmond, Virginia. National Serigraph Society

The National Serigraph Society was founded in 1940 by group of artists involved in the WPA Federal Art Project, including Anthony Velonis and Max Arthur Cohn. The creation of the society coincided with the rise of serigraphs being used as a medium for fine art. Originally called the Silk Screen Group, the name was soon changed to the National Serigraph Society.
