Millbrook Healthcare is a provider of community equipment services, wheelchair services, and Technology Enabled Care services. It also runs a home improvement agency and was awarded the Foundations HIA Service of the Year Award 2017. [1]

History

The firm is based in Southampton, where it was founded in 1946 as an upholstery business. [2] It operates a fleet of 400 vans from depots across southern England. [3] [4] It has provided wheelchair services for Plymouth and South Hams since 2011. [5]

It took over the contract for wheelchair provision in Hampshire in 2014. At that time there was a waiting list of around 18 months. [6] It took over the service in Kent in April 2017. [7] It took over the Care and Repair service from West Dorset District Council in 2015. [8]

In August 2018 four disability groups in Kent wrote to the Clinical commissioning groups and MPs in the county to say that they “no longer had any confidence in Millbrook to provide the wheelchair service across Kent”, or in the ability of Thanet CCG to manage the contract, worth £5.1 million a year. [9] A representative from the Kent Wheelchair Users’ Group described the service as “worse now than it’s ever been in the 56 years I’ve used it”. [10]

In February 2021, Millbrook has acquired Ross Care, "a major provider of wheelchair services and mobility equipment". [11] [12]

Out-of-hours services are the arrangements to provide access to healthcare at times when General Practitioner surgeries are closed; in the United Kingdom this is normally between 6.30pm and 8am, at weekends, at Bank Holidays and sometimes if the practice is closed for educational sessions.

Healthcare in Devon was the responsibility of two clinical commissioning groups until July 2022, one covering Northern, Eastern and Western Devon, and one covering South Devon and Torbay. It was announced in November 2018 that the two were to merge.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Healthcare in Kent</span>

Healthcare in Kent has, from 1 July 2022, been mainly the responsibility of the Kent & Medway Integrated Care Board. Certain specialised services are directly commissioned by NHS England, coordinated through the South East integrated regional team. Some NHS England structures are aligned on a Kent and Medway basis, others on a South East basis and there is liaison with London to provide many tertiary healthcare services.

Healthcare in Sussex was the responsibility of seven Clinical Commissioning Groups covering: Brighton and Hove; Coastal West Sussex; Horsham and Mid Sussex; Crawley; Eastbourne Hailsham and Seaford; Hastings and Rother; High Weald; and Lewes-Havens from 2013 to 2020. Healthcare in Hampshire was the responsibility of six clinical commissioning groups until July 2022. These were based in Southampton, Portsmouth, North East Hampshire and Farnham, South Eastern Hampshire, West Hampshire, and North Hampshire. In 2018, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Partnership of Clinical Commissioning Groups was set up. Maggie MacIsaac was Chief Executive.

Salutem Healthcare is a social care provider based in Windsor founded in 2016. It employs more than 3,000 staff. John Godden, the chief executive, was awarded an MBE in the 2021 New Year Honours.
