Early life

Minu Muneer, also known as Minu Kuria and Minu Mariam, was born on 1973 January 25 in Thiruvalla, Pathanamthitta district of Kerala. Brought up in a middle-class Christian family, Minu's life took a transformative turn when she converted to Islam. [7]

Acting career

Minu acting career start in 2008 when she was cast in the Malayalam drama film One Way Ticket (2008 film), portraying the character of Bava Haji's wife. Her role in this film earned her initial recognition and marked the beginning of her journey in the Malayalam film industry. Later in the same year(2008), she was cast in another drama film titled De Ingottu Nokkiye . While these early roles were supporting in nature, they allowed Minu to establish herself as a talented actress with a natural flair for drama In 2012, she starred in the romantic comedy film Da Thadiya. The film further cemented her reputation as a versatile actress, demonstrating her ability to handle both comedic and dramatic roles with equal ease.

Controversies

She made shocking allegations against Malayalam actor Jayasurya that he had misbehaved with her during the production set of De Ingottu Nokkiye in 2008. This case was came in light during the Hema Committee becoming sensational. [8]

Njan Marykutty is a 2018 Indian Malayalam-language drama film written and directed by Ranjith Sankar and co-produced with Jayasurya. The film stars Jayasurya as a trans woman named Marykutty, with Innocent, Jewel Mary, Jins Baskar, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Aju Varghese and Joju George in other prominent roles. The music for the film was composed by Anand Madhusoodhanan. The film was released on 15 June 2018 on the eve of Eid.

Hema Committee was an advisory committee formed by the Government of Kerala in July 2017, to investigate the issues related to sexual violence and gender inequality, in the Malayalam cinema industry and to submit solutions to them. It was a three-member committee chaired by former Kerala High Court judge Justice Hema. Film actress Sharada and former IAS officer KB Vatsalakumari, were other members of the committee. The committee was formed when the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), an organization formed after the incident of a young actress; who was assaulted in the year 2017 in Kochi, complained to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
