Mir Abdul Qayyum was a Bangladeshi psychologist who was killed in the Bangladesh Liberation war and is considered a martyr in Bangladesh.
Qayyum was born in Ghagra, Gaffargaon, Mymensingh on 6 July 1939. He graduated from Gafargaon Islamia High School in 1956 and from Gafargaon College in 1958. He graduated from Ananda Mohan College in 1960 and studied M. A. in psychology in Rajshahi University graduating in 1962. [1]
Qayyum taught in Kandipara Asgar Ali High School and in Gafargaon College. He joined Rajshahi University as a lecturer in the Department of Psychology in 1966 and previously worked at the research centre of the department. He participated in the mass uprising in East Pakistan in 1969. [1]
Qayyum was arrested by the Pakistan Army on 25 November 1971. He was buried alive along with others by the Pakistan Army. [1]

In 1971, the Pakistan Army and their local collaborators, most notably the extreme right wing militia group Al-Badr, engaged in the systematic execution of Bengali intellectuals during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. Bengali intellectuals were abducted, tortured and killed during the entire duration of the war as part of the 1971 Bangladesh genocide. However, the largest number of systematic executions took place on 25 March and 14 December 1971, two dates that bookend the conflict. 14 December is commemorated in Bangladesh as Martyred Intellectuals Day.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Qadir was an officer of the Pakistan Army and later ADOS for Mukti Bahini while serving in Chittagong, during the initial period of Bangladesh Liberation War. He was involved in the Bengali independence movement and was arrested by the Pakistan Army in April 1971. He was presumed to have been murdered and in 2008, his body was found in a mass grave.
