A mirzai (or mirzaee) was a garment similar to a jacket with "long and loose sleeves and open cuffs". It was worn under the jacket by males in the Indian subcontinent in the 19th century. The mirzai was sometimes made with cotton padding to protect the wearer from cold. [1] [2]
Mirzai or mirzāi is a Hindustani language word that means a jacket. [3] John Forbes Watson describes a mirzaee in his work titled Textile Manufactures and Costumes of the people of India as a garment of “respectable Mahomedans” and high ranking servants employed by Europeans, who wore the mirzai beneath an outer garment called a kuba, or quba. [2] A kufcha was a similar garment with tight sleeves, and dugla was a term for a mirzai that was quilted. [4]

Fashion in fourteenth-century Europe was marked by the beginning of a period of experimentation with different forms of clothing. Shalwar kameez is a traditional combination dress worn by women, and in some regions by men, in South Asia, and Central Asia.
Salwar or Shalwar is cloth worn from the waist to the ankles, covering both legs separately. It is the lower-garment of the Shalwar kameez suit which is widely-worn in South Asia. It is known for its lively hues, rich fabrics, and embroidery. It is also the national dress of Pakistan, and since the later 1960s with the salwar being used in government offices in Pakistan. The outfit has been a part of Punjabi tradition for centuries. Salwar can be distinguished to the Punjabi suthan which is shorter than the salwar. Salwar originated in Central Asia and its use spread to South Asia.
In the ancient Punjabi region, people wore cotton clothing. Both men and women wore knee-length tops. A scarf was worn over the tops which would be draped over the left shoulder and under the right. A large sheet would be further draped over one shoulder which would hang loose towards the knees. Both male and female wore a dhoti around the waist. Modern Punjabi dress has retained this outfit but over its long history has added other forms of dress.
History of clothing in the Indian subcontinent can be traced to the Indus Valley civilization or earlier. Indians have mainly worn clothing made up of locally grown cotton. India was one of the first places where cotton was cultivated and used even as early as 2500 BCE during the Harappan era. The remnants of the ancient Indian clothing can be found in the figurines discovered from the sites near the Indus Valley civilisation, the rock-cut sculptures, the cave paintings, and human art forms found in temples and monuments. These scriptures view the figures of human wearing clothes which can be wrapped around the body. Taking the instances of the sari to that of turban and the dhoti, the traditional Indian wears were mostly tied around the body in various ways.

Kurti top is an upper garment worn in the Indian subcontinent encompassing waistcoats, jackets and blouses.
Sadri, also known as a Waskat or Bandi, is a vest-jacket worn by men in South Asia, while women sometimes wear a similar waistcoat known as a Koti. In Europe and America, the sadri became known as a Nehru vest.

Tubada was an outer garment for men in India. It was a coat, part of a Hindu's costume in the early 19th century. John Forbes Watson mentions it as a ''wide great coat'' in his book The Textile Manufactures and the Costumes of the People of India, London, 1866.
Angia is an obsolete form of bodice or breast-cloth of Indian origin dating from the 19th century, covering the entire upper body from bust to waist and tied at the back. Very short sleeves, if any, and high waist characterized the angia, which was made of fine cotton material such as muslin. Women in India wore it beneath dresses such as Peshwaj.
