Michelina Chindiya (born 18 December 1993), popularly known as Miss Chindiya, is a Zimbabwean fitness influencer and lifestyle content creator. She was listed in Zimbabwe's 50 under 30 Emerging Leaders Class of 2021 and 50 Young Pace Setters of Zimbabwe in 2021. [1] [2] [3]
Michelina was born in Harare, Zimbabwe. She did her secondary education at the Dominican Convent High School in Harare. In 2015 she completed her tertiary education at the University of Essex in the United Kingdom and returned to Zimbabwe shortly after. [4] [5]
Michelina Chindiya is an economic contributor for the BBC UK and BBC Africa. [6] [7] In 2018 she contributed financial insights to BBC's flag ship show “Focus On Africa of Zimbabwean Finance Minister, Mthuli Ncube’s maiden Annual National Budget, the first ever national budget after Robert Mugabe’s reign. She has been interviewed on various radio stations to share her financial insights on the Zimbabwean economic situation, SAfm, Channel Africa (July 2019), [8] ZiFM (March 2020) and CapitalkFM (Sept 2021). [9]
During her career, she has been appointed brand ambassador for Newlands Country Club (January 2020), Daisies Foundation (2020), she was the face of the annual Econet Victoria Falls Marathon (November 2020 – December 2020) and CIMAS’s national iGo wellness campaign (February 2021 - April 2021). She was also host for Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe Xpress Fitness programme. [10]
She was featured on the cover of Prowl Magazine in March 2020 and DIVA’s Inc’s in April 2021 Issue. [11] In June 2021 she was featured in BBC’s “What’s New” to discuss the realities of social media. She then featured in GQ South Africa and Glamour South Africa, as one of 10 Zimbabwean creatives to look out for. [12]
In October 2021 she was recognized by the university, the University of Essex as one of their “Inspiring Black Alumni” in honour of Black History Month. [13] [14] She then went on to work with Facebook Africa on the rollout of their latest Reels Ads feature as part of their “Let’s Get Real About Reels” campaign, [15] this was followed by an endorsement with Philips Africa in January 2022. Zimbabwe, officially the Republic of Zimbabwe, is a landlocked country in Southern Africa, between the Zambezi and Limpopo Rivers, bordered by South Africa to the south, Botswana to the southwest, Zambia to the north, and Mozambique to the east. The capital and largest city is Harare, and the second largest is Bulawayo.
Harare, formerly known as Salisbury, is the capital and largest city of Zimbabwe, and is the most populous city in the country. The city proper has an area of 982.3km2 (378.7 mi2), a population of 1,849,600 as of the 2022 census and an estimated 2,487,209 people in its metropolitan province. The city is situated in north-eastern Zimbabwe in the country's Mashonaland region. Harare is a metropolitan province, which also incorporates the municipalities of Chitungwiza and Epworth. The city sits on a plateau at an elevation of 1,483 metres above sea level, and its climate falls into the subtropical highland category.
Tsitsi Dangarembga is a Zimbabwean novelist, playwright and filmmaker. Her debut novel, Nervous Conditions (1988), which was the first to be published in English by a Black woman from Zimbabwe, was named by the BBC in 2018 as one of the top 100 books that have shaped the world. She has won other literary honours, including the Commonwealth Writers' Prize and the PEN Pinter Prize. In 2020, her novel This Mournable Body was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. In 2022, Dangarembga was convicted in a Zimbabwe court of inciting public violence, by displaying, on a public road, a placard asking for reform.

White Zimbabweans are Zimbabwean people of European descent. In linguistic, cultural, and historical terms, these Zimbabweans of European ethnic origin are mostly English-speaking descendants of British settlers and a small minority of them are either Afrikaans-speaking descendants of Afrikaners from South Africa and/or those descended from Greek, Portuguese, Italian and Jewish immigrants.
Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is a Zimbabwean politician who has served as President of Zimbabwe since 24 November 2017. A member of ZANU–PF and a longtime ally of former President Robert Mugabe, he held a series of cabinet portfolios and was Mugabe's Vice-President until November 2017, when he was dismissed before coming to power in a coup d'état. He secured his first full term as president in the disputed 2018 general election. Mnangagwa has been re-elected in 2023 with 52.6% of the votes. Nelson Chamisa came in second with 44%.
Tendai Laxton Biti is a Zimbabwean politician who served as Finance Minister of Zimbabwe from 2009 to 2013. He is the second Vice President of Citizens Coalition for Change. He was the Secretary-General of the Movement for Democratic Change and the subsequent Movement for Democratic Change – Tsvangirai (MDC-T) political parties and a Member of Parliament for Harare East until he was expelled from the party and recalled from parliament in mid-2014,before winning the seat again in 2018.
Hyperinflation in Zimbabwe is an ongoing period of currency instability in Zimbabwe which, using Cagan's definition of hyperinflation, began in February 2007. During the height of inflation from 2008 to 2009, it was difficult to measure Zimbabwe's hyperinflation because the government of Zimbabwe stopped filing official inflation statistics. However, Zimbabwe's peak month of inflation is estimated at 79.6 billion percent month-on-month, 89.7 sextillion percent year-on-year in mid-November 2008.
The Domestic Twenty20 formerly known as and Stanbic Bank Twenty20 and the Metropolitan Bank Twenty20 is the domestic Twenty20 cricket competition in Zimbabwe. It was formed in 2007 and maintained by Zimbabwe Cricket.
The Southern Rocks is one of five Zimbabwean cricket franchises. They are a first-class cricket team, based in the Masvingo and Matabeleland South area. They play their home matches at Masvingo Sports Club in Masvingo. The team initially ceased to play after the 2013–14 season. In their 47 first-class matches they won 3, lost 27, and drew 17. However, in December 2020, Zimbabwe Cricket confirmed they would be one of the teams playing in the 2020–21 Logan Cup Southern Rocks won their first Logan Cup trophy in the same 2020–21 season.
Maria Kiwanuka is a Ugandan economist, businesswoman and politician who served as Minister of Finance in the Cabinet of Uganda from 27 May 2011 to 1 March 2015. Since 2015 she has been Senior Advisor to the President of Uganda on financial matters, responsible for the Bretton Woods Institutions.
Nyepudzayi Bona Mugabe is a Zimbabwean businesswoman. She is the only daughter of former and late Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and Grace Mugabe, who also have two sons. She shares a name with Robert Mugabe's mother.
Natalie Payida Jabangwe, is a Zimbabwean computer engineer and businesswoman, who serves as the Group Digital Executive Officer at Sanlam, based in Cape Town, South Africa. In this role, she oversees digital functions in over 34 African markets, India and Malaysia.
Victoria Wezi Mhone, known in music circles as Wezi or Wezi HeartSound, is a Zambian singer and songwriter. She rose to fame in 2016 after releasing her debut EP-Uhai which won her the 2016 new artist of the year at the Zambian music awards. Wezi release a song called "Isa Bantu Tyala" featuring Pilato and "Take My Heart", song cover, which was produced by Chali Bravo, released on 8 April 2020.
Olusola "Sola" Adejoke David-Borha, is the chief executive (CEO) of Africa Regions at the Standard Bank Group since January 2017. She was the CEO of Stanbic IBTC Holdings until January 2017 and was deputy CEO and executive director of corporate & investment banking. She was the CEO of Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc from May 2011 to November 2012, and was head of investment banking for Africa. She is the vice chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group since 2015. She joined the board of IBTC in July 1994. She has been a non-executive director of Coca-Cola HBC AG since June 2015. She was a director at Stanbic IBTC Holdings PLC from 1994 to March 2017. She is a member of the governing council of the Redeemer's University.
Daniel Jakiel is a Zimbabwean cricketer who currently represents the Malawi national team. He made his List A debut for Mashonaland Eagles in the 2018–19 Pro50 Championship on 23 February 2019. He was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament, with thirteen dismissals in four matches. He made his Twenty20 debut for Mashonaland Eagles in the 2018–19 Stanbic Bank 20 Series on 11 March 2019.
The Zimbabwean dollar, also known as the Zimdollar or Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) dollar, is one of the official currencies of Zimbabwe. It was the only official currency in Zimbabwe from June 2019 to March 2020, after which foreign currencies were legalised again.
Joana Ruvimbo Mamombe is a Zimbabwean politician, former student leader and a member of the Citizens Coalition for Change. She is known to be one of the youngest Zimbabwean members of parliament, representing Harare West.
Yinka Sanni, is the chief executive officer (CEO) of Africa Regions at the Standard Bank Group since April 2021. Immediately before his present position, he served as the chief executive officer at Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc., from 2017 until April 2021. His appointment was effective on 15 April 2021.
Chido Cleopatra Mpemba is political appointee serving as the Youngest Diplomat in the African Union Chairperson's Cabinet. She leads on youth affairs, fronting the voices of over 870 million youth across the Governments in Africa as the African Union Special Envoy on Youth appointed by the Chairperson H.E Moussa Faki Mahamat and a decision endorsed by the Africa Heads of States for the inclusion of youth in the leadership structures of the African Union. Chido has been recognized as one of the '100 most Influential African Women' alongside African Female Heads of States and was also named as one of the 'Top 100 Under 40 Most Influential People of African Descent'. A former corporate banker and a global shaper, she has become a public policy expert with a keen interest and focus on geopolitics whilst pushing to end global inequalities with the interest of youth in the forefront. In her role she founded a digital transformation campaign that has been launched in over 9 countries and has had an impact on over 1000 young people, through a public-private sector approach in tackling some of Africa's challenges. Chido launched a listening tour campaign in 2022 and has visited over 30 Countries to engage with young people, encouraging solution focused intergenerational dialogues for socio-economic development, in addition using the opportunity to plant over 200 fruit trees to date in driving climate action to offset her carbon footprints and encourage food security in marginalized communities. A sought-after global moderator, she has moderated sessions for High-Level Sessions including for the United Nations. As a young thought leader, she has published opinion pieces with the World Economic Forum, London School of Economics, Google and featured on META's "Africa's Rising Stars" Series and BBC's Focus on Africa Documentary Feature and Podcast. Chido is currently an appointed Commissioner under the Climate Governance Commission which is chaired by the former President of Ireland and Chair of the Elders, Mary Robinson, she is a Leadership Council Member for Africa Reach which is Chaired by the President of Africa First Ladies and the First Lady of Namibia Monica Geingob and in addition a Global Leadership Council Member of Generation Unlimited. Chido is an alumni of the Emerging Security Sector Leaders (ESSL) Program from the Africa Center of Strategic Studies at the U.S National Defense University and an Alumni of President Obama's Young African Leaders Initiative as a former Mandela Washington Fellow. She is also a Global Shaper, an initiative of the World Economic Forum
