Miss Sri Lanka Online is an annual online beauty pageant. [1] Miss Sri Lanka Online primarily used Facebook to run the contest. [2] It is said to be the world's first major online beauty pageant. [3] [4] The contest debuted in 2012.In 2019 the event got a new look with new sponsors and a more interactive website in 2019 [5] The first event was streamed online live to a global audience on 6 December 2012. [6]

Contest

The national level pageant takes entries locally and from Sri Lankans living overseas. Applicants log onto a website [7] which then directs them to the Facebook page where they can upload a photograph of themselves which will be judged. The best 50 contestants are then selected and the public votes ('Like' on Facebook) for their preferred contestant.

The top 25 candidates then provide three more photographs and a short video clip, which again will be voted for by the public. [8] The finalists are judged by a panel. The finale where the winner is unveiled is an event streamed live globally online.

The winner of Miss Sri Lanka Online 2012 was Maria Alkasas. The 1st Runner up was Angela Richard. The 2nd Runner up was Karandza Fernando. [10] [11]

Miss Tourism International is an annual international beauty pageant run by the D’ Touch International Sdn. Bhd. Foundation. The pageant was first held in 1994 at Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, where 23 contestants competed. In 2006, the contest was held outside of Malaysia for the first time, in Guangzhou, China. In 2016, 60 countries participated in the Miss Tourism International pageant.

On the night of 4 April 2021, the grand finale of the Mrs. Sri Lanka 2021 pageant was held at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapakse Theater in Colombo. The event was partially telecast live via Rupavahini who is one of Sri Lanka's main national television channels. The competition ended in bizarre fashion as the contestant who was initially crowned as Mrs. Sri Lanka 2021 winner was unceremoniously dethroned by the previous title holder. The incident sparked social media reaction and wide media attention.Despite the controversial incident, Sri Lanka was announced as the host country for the 2021 Mrs. World Pageant. Pushpika De Silva was reinstated as the legitimate winner of the Mrs. Sri Lanka 2021 competition and therefore was eligible to compete at the Miss World 2021 beauty contest.

Hilton Colombo

Hilton Colombo is a Hilton brand five-star luxury hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The hotel is owned by Hotel Developers (Lanka) Ltd. The company was incorporated in 1983 and was listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange in the following year. The hotel was launched in 1987 and the 30th anniversary was celebrated in 2017 with an issuance of a stamp and a first day cover. However, the company is delisted from the stock exchange in 2020 and solely owned by the Government of Sri Lanka, therefore, runs as a state-owned enterprise.

<i>Derana Dream Star</i> Sri Lankan reality show

Derana Dream Star is a Sri Lankan reality television series by television channel TV Derana. Dream Star first season was started in 2008 as the first season of Derana Dream Star. By 2021 TV Derana has presented over 10 seasons of Dream Star since the beginning of 2008. The program name means "Way to be a star". Program is presenting in TV Derana Dream Star studio in Colombo, Sri Lanka. From season one to nine, the winner was elected by the SMS votes cast by the people and the program wasn't live, since season ten, the program has been turned into a live reality program, the winner is elected by the majority of people votes cast through the online.
