Mitford Hospital, officially Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital, is a public teaching hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Situated in Old Dhaka area, the hospital serves as a teaching hospital of Sir Salimullah Medical College. [1] The hospital is named after Robert Mitford, a philanthropist and British colonial official. It was the most important medical institution, not only in Dhaka, but in the whole of Eastern Bengal and Assam in the mid-19th century. [1]
At present, around 750 to 800 patients avail indoor treatment from the hospital while around 1500 patients seek treatment from the out patient department of Mitford each day. [2]
