The Mitra personal mover [1] is an Indian battery-operated mobility device. The vehicle is capable of carrying a single person and aimed to be useful particularly in airport corridors, institutional campuses and in speciality buildings such as hospitals where low noise pollution is required. The vehicle is twin motor based and works on unique hybrid steering mechanism developed by inventors Rishabh Sinha and Subhav Sinha.

History

Subhav Sinha, one of inventors, was selected as the 'International Climate Champion' for year 2010, a program run by British Council. [2] The creation has been covered by CII (Confederation of Indian Industries) in Journal of Small Business and Enterprise as "Mitra shows path of Innovation". [3] The Economic Times has featured their exhibition at The Auto Expo with the article 'Personalised mover' draws eyes at Auto Expo' [1] Entrepreneur India magazine has also featured the Mitra in its start-up section in the article 'Mobility Gets Personal'. [4] Techpedia, a portal of technology projects by students, an initiative of SRISTI (Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions) has featured this vehicle in a list of its top-ranking projects. [5] The vehicle has been covered by leading daily locals like The Hindu , [6] and Deccan Chronicle . [7]

Mitra was used at the Commonwealth Games 2010 held at New Delhi. It was also featured in the CII- I3 National Fair Exhibition, organised jointly by CII, Agilent Technologies and DST (Department of Science and Technology). Mitra was displayed at the 10th Auto Expo held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, India. [8] [9]

Design

Rishabh Sinha and Subhav are the Mitra's developers. The vehicle is self balanced and has both standing and sit provision for a single person. Its unique alignment of wheels gives the vehicle additional stability by controlling the centre of gravity, and prevents the person from falling while accelerating, braking or during sharp turns. Being battery operated, this vehicle is eco-friendly [4] [10] as it does not emit any effluents and consumes less energy compared to existing petrol and diesel vehicles.

The i-unit is an ultra-compact single seater four wheeled Toyota concept car. It debuted at the World Expo 2005, held in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The vehicle is a cross between a microcar, a motorcycle, and a vehicular exoskeleton. The goal of Toyota is to provide a personal mobility, which can be used on roads but also does not hinder interaction with pedestrians. For this the i-unit has two possible setups. First, there is an upright low speed setup, where the rider has a higher position and can have conversations face-to-face with pedestrians and can move among people. This upright position can be transformed while driving to a low position, where the rider sits much lower and more reclined. This high speed setup has a much lower center of gravity and is for driving at higher speeds.

In 2022, India became the fourth largest country in the world by the valuation of its automotive industry.

Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited, formerly known as the Mahindra Electric Mobility Limited (2016-2023) & Reva Electric Car Company (2010-2016), is an Indian company based in Bangalore, involved in designing and manufacturing of compact electric vehicles. The company's first vehicle was the REVAi electric car, available in 26 countries with more than 4,000 of its different versions sold worldwide by mid-March 2011. Chetan Maini is a Co-Founder and Vice Chairman at SUN Mobility and an Indian business magnate in the electric car industry. He is best known for building India's first electric car, REVA, and as the Founder of Reva Electric Car Company Ltd, now Mahindra Electric Mobility Limited, where he served as an advisor. SUN Mobility, a joint venture between Virya Mobility 5.0 and SUN New Energy Systems, aims to be a provider of charging points and services to accelerate mass electric vehicle usage. Chetan is the director of Maini Group and co-founder of Virya Mobility 5.0. He is also an investor and on the board of several clean-tech start-ups.

Rishabh Rajendra Pant is an Indian international cricketer who plays for the Indian cricket team as a wicket-keeper batter. Having played all formats for India, he is best known for his consistency to score runs in Test cricket. Pant plays for Delhi in domestic cricket and captains Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. Launched in February 2020 at the Auto Expo 2020, Rage+ is claimed to be India's first smart electric cargo three-wheeler. Recently, the company also unveiled a refrigerated vehicle - Rage+ Frost that will assist in delivery of food and pharmaceuticals, particularly the COVID-19 vaccine. Going forward, Anglian is looking to invest US$300–600 million in its e-mobility venture as it is committed to build India's first global electric cargo company.
