Jahangirnagar University is a fully residential public research university located in Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was established in 1970 by the Jahangirnagar Muslim University Ordinance of the Pakistani Government, which was amended after the independence of Bangladesh to form the university. Syed Muhammed Abul Faiz, also known as SMA Faiz, is a Bangladeshi academic and incumbent chairman of Bangladesh University Grants Commission. He served as the 26th vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka serving from September 2002 until January 2009. Abdul Monem Khan was a Bengali politician of East Pakistan who was the longest serving governor of East Pakistan from 1962 until 1969. He was assassinated in 1971 at aged 72.

Bangladesh Maritime University (BMU) (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ মেরিটাইম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) was established in 2013, the 37th public university of the country. It is the first maritime university in Bangladesh, the 3rd maritime university in South Asia and the 12th maritime university in the world. It has issued its first calls for admission in December, 2016. The BSc in Oceanography program was started on 3 January 2017 at the university's temporary campus in Mirpur, as part of the first-ever launch of the Bachelor class in the university. Then in 2018, the first batch of BSc in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering classes started. Two more program classes started in 2019. LLB in Maritime Law and BBA in Port Management and Logistics. 2020 BSc in Maritime Fisheries first batch admission and classes start.
Mohammed Omar Ejaz Rahman is a Bangladeshi academic psychiatrist and epidemiologist/demographer who was previously Dean of Research and Professor of Epidemiology and Demography at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh from 1 February 2020 to 31 January 2022. Prior to that, Rahman served as the vice-chancellor of Independent University, Bangladesh from 25 January 2012 until 26 January 2020. He was also an adjunct professor of epidemiology and demography at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Harvard University.
