Mode Plagal is an originally Greek group who perform traditional Greek music blended with jazz, funk and other international styles. [1] They have been described as "the preeminent ambassadors of the much-maligned vernacular Greek music in the 21st century" [2]

The Athens-based band was formed in 1990 by Thodoris Rellos (saxophone, vocals), Kleon Antoniou (guitar, vocals) and Takis Kanellos (drums). They were joined in 1995 by Antonis Maratos (originally percussion, later bass); in 1997 by Angelos Polychronou (percussion); and in 2000 by Florian Mikuta (keyboards). [3] After two albums of instrumental music, Mode Plagal and Mode Plagal II, they added vocals for their third album, Mode Plagal III. In 2002, they collaborated with Turkish group Bosphorus, led by composer Nikiforos Metaxas, to record the album Του Βόσπορου Το Πέρα ("Beyond the Bosphorus"). [4] [5]

Critic Fiachra Gibbons wrote of Mode Plagal: "On first hearing, they are a driving, straightahead jazz-funk outfit. Listen longer and the restless Greek spirit, audible in the transcendent sax of Thodoris Rellos, becomes evident, drawing from rembetika - the Greek blues - and the dance music of the Balkans, Thrace, Asia Minor and all points east." In 2008, they released the album Η Κάθοδος Των Σαλτιμπάγκων, recorded with Cretan band Hainides, and in 2010 they released Στην Κοιλιά Του Κήτους. In 2014, they released Πέρα Από Τα Σύνορα, a collaboration with Hainides and the musician Psarantonis (Antonis Xylouris). [7]

<i>Doro Theou</i> 1999 studio album by Katy Garbi

Doro Theou is the tenth studio album by Greek artist, Katy Garbi. It was released on 23 June 1999 by Sony Music Greece and certified gold in a month, but after months received platinum certification, selling over 80,000 units*. The album was written by various artists like Giorgos Theofanous who composed six songs, Antonis Vardis, Christos Nikolopoulos, Kiriakos Papadopoulos, Evi Droutsa and Ilias Filippou. It also includes the music video of the title track, due to the video's release prior to the release of the album, and two of the tracks are adapted, "Agkires" from Iste Hendek, Iste Deve and "Zilia" from Kalast Feek Kol Alkalam. "Doro Theou" is often considered a dedication to Garbi's son because it was released during her pregnancy, however the album's insert clarifies that the dedication belongs to her husband, Dionisis, with the lyrics of the title track describing the real-life story of the couple. A translation of the insert reads "Dionisis, this Doro Theou is devoted to you, because you know how to make every day of our common life special".

Arhizo Polemo is the seventh studio album by Greek artist, Katy Garbi. It was released on 10 May 1996 by Sony Music Greece and certified gold in 14 days, but after months received triple-platinum certification, selling over 180,000 units*. The majority of the album was written by Phoebus with contributions by Andreas Mexas, Charis Andreadis, Giannis Doxas and Smaroula Maragkoudaki. It was ranked among the best-selling Greek albums of 1996 and is Katy's top-seller album, containing many of her most successful songs like "Tha Melagholiso", "Mia Fora Ki Enan Kairo", "Hamena" and "Perasmena Xehasmena".

Tha Miliso Me T' Asteria is the third album by Greek singer Natasa Theodoridou. It was released on 17 March 2000 by Sony Music Greece and received platinum certification in Greece, selling 50,000 units. The album was written by several artists and frequent partners of Theodoridou, including Triantaphillos, Natalia Germanou and Eleni Giannatsoulia, and contains five singles, including some of timeless hits "Na Grapseis Lathos", "An Iparhei Paradeisos", "Diplo Paihnidi" and "Proti Fora Tha Kano Kati Sosto".

Ip' Efthini Mou is the fourth album by Greek singer Natasa Theodoridou. It was released on 6 July 2001 by Sony Music Greece and received gold certification, selling 40,000 units. The album was written by several artists, including also Triantaphillos, Natalia Germanou and Eleni Giannatsoulia, and contains her top hit "Kataziteitai" which is a cover of Ojos Así, previously performed by Shakira.

Rock Candy Funk Party is an American jazz-funk band from Los Angeles, California. It was formed in 2009 by drummer Tal Bergman and guitarist Ron DeJesus, who had previously released Grooove, Vol. 1 in 2007. After adding guitarist Joe Bonamassa, bassist Mike Merritt and keyboardist Renato Neto, the band released its debut album We Want Groove in 2013, which reached number 5 on the US Billboard Jazz Albums chart and number 6 on the UK Jazz & Blues Albums Chart. Percussionist Daniel Sadownick joined after the album's release, featuring on the band's first live album Rock Candy Funk Party Takes New York: Live at The Iridium in 2014.

She trained in classical and jazz singing, piano and orthophony, and participated in Spyros Sakkas's Vocal Art Workshop. "Kivotos " is a song by Greek singer Katy Garbi featuring Antonis Remos. It was released on digital platforms on 27 April 2020 by Panik Platinum, a sub-label of Panik Records, as the fourth single from her upcoming twenty-first studio album. "Kivotos " will be one of five new duets of previously recorded songs by Garbi written and produced by Phoebus to be featured on the upcoming album. To promote the song, Garbi released a music video in conjunction with Kivotos tou Kosmou, a non-profit charity organisation supporting special care and protection of "mother and child". All proceeds from the sale of the single are donated to Kivotos tou Kosmou.
