The area was established in the mid 1980s as part of the Defence Officers' Housing Scheme and has 536 individual housing plots. [1] The administration falls under Dhaka Cantonment and the cantonment board. [1] There is a mosque inside the DOHS. [4]

Hafizuddin Ahmed BB is a politician of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and a retired Bangladesh Army major, and a six-term Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Bhola-3 constituency. He fought in the Bangladesh Liberation War and was awarded the third highest gallantry award in Bangladesh, Bir Bikrom for his courage. He is also a retired footballer and one of the few from East Pakistan to have represented the Pakistan national football team.

A. J. M. Aminul Haque was a Bangladesh Army officer and veteran of the Bangladesh Liberation War. He was awarded the Bir Uttom, Bangladesh's second-highest military gallantry award. He was the commanding officer of the 8th East Bengal Regiment during the war and retired as a brigadier general from Bangladesh Army.
