Khan completed his HSC from Manikganj Debendranath College. He completed his Ph.D. in Ornithology from Bombay University (now University of Mumbai) in 1977 under the supervision of Indian ornithologist Salim Ali. [1]
In 1983, Khan assumed the role of the curator of the Al Ain Zoo in United Arab Emirates. He became head of Dubai Zoo in 1989 and then went on to become a specialist in Wildlife and Zoo Management in 2010. [1]
Khan is a former member of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Species Survival Commission and World Commission on Park and Protected Area. [1]
Khan has written 24 books, 50 publications. He served as a faculty member at Rajshahi University. [1]
As of 2016, Khan is serving as a specialist on Wildlife and Zoo Management in Dubai. [1]

Dubai Zoo was a 1.5-kilometre (0.93 mi) zoo located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It was originally built in 1967 by a Dubai resident when Sheikh Rashid bin Maktoum, the late Ruler of Dubai, permitted Otto J. Bulart to build a zoo on a 2-hectare (4.9-acre) plot in Jumeirah. It is still the oldest zoo in the Arabian Peninsula. It was considered a Dubai landmark in the late 1960s as it indicated the "town's end".
Al Ain Zoo, also "Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort" or simply "Al Ain Wildlife Park", is a 400-hectare (990-acre) zoo located in the foothills of Jebel Hafeet in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates. It is primarily composed of ungulates and herbivores such as Arabian antelopes and oryx, eland, gazelle, lechwe and can be found in the tree shaded paddocks which offer breeding conditions that were deemed 'excellent'. He is an Honorary Professor of Applied Environmental Management at the University of Exeter and was the National Conservation Manager for the Environment Agency from 2002 to 2016. In January 2017 Driver was appointed as Director of Rewilding Britain and is at the forefront of the rewilding movement in Britain influencing national policy and advising large landowners and landowning organisations. He was described publicly in July 2020 by Environment Minister Lord Goldsmith as being “a fantastic influence on the national debate around rewilding who could take the credit for rewilding becoming more mainstream”. He is the creator and voluntary warden of Ali's Pond Local Nature Reserve in Sonning, Berks, which carries his name.
Raorchestes rezakhani is a species of cryptic bush frog from northeastern Bangladesh and named after Mohammad Ali Reza Khan, a ornithologist and wildlife conservationist. The research, collection, and identification tasks were done by two Bangladeshi researchers from Jagannath University, Dhaka with support from Sabir Bin Muzaffar, Professor of Biology at United Arab Emirates University. The specimens are deposited in the Shahid Rafique Special Specimen Collection, Department of Zoology, Jagannath University, Dhaka.
