Major General (Retd) Mohammad Humayun Kabir, OSP, SUP, rcds, psc, was a two-star general of the Bangladesh Army. As Major General he served as the Commander Logistics Area Dhaka Cantonment of Bangladesh Army. [1] He served in various command and headquarters formations. He served as Adjutant General of Bangladesh Army, Commandant of the Bangladesh Military Academy, the Director of Military Operations-Army headquarters and also the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 55 Infantry division and 17 Infantry division. [2]

Education

He holds three master's degrees, in international security and strategy from King's College London (2013); in business administration from the University of Dhaka (2002-2005); and in defence studies from Bangladesh National University (1998-1999). He is also a graduate of the Royal College of Defence Studies, United Kingdom (2012-2013), and the United States Army Command and General Staff College (1999-2000). [3]

Military career

Humayan Kabir was commissioned as an officer in the 13th BMA Long Course in December 1985. He held staff positions in the field and at headquarters. As a Brigadier General, he commanded an infantry brigade and later went onto serve as Director of Military Operations Directorate for the Bangladesh Army. He has served as Commandant of the Bangladesh Military Academy. After promotion to the rank of Major General he commanded 17 infantry division (Sylhet) from 2013 to 2016. [3] [4]

UN Mission

Kabir served as a military observer with the United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC) from 2002 to 2003, and with the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) from 1995 to 1996.

On 26 July 2016 UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appointed Major General Mohammad Humayun Kabir as Force Commander of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP). He succeeded Major General Kristin Lund, the first female Force Commander in the UN. [3]

Personal life

Mohammad Humayun Kabir was born in 1965. He is married and has three sons. He is married to Tazrin Sultana.

The Bangladesh Army is the land warfare branch and the largest component of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. Control of personnel and operations is administered by the Army Headquarters, Dhaka. AbuTayeb Muhammad Zahirul Alam, rcds, psc, is a retired lieutenant general of Bangladesh Army. He served as Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL). He was the first officer in Bangladesh army to achieve such high post in the UN Peacekeeping Mission.Previously he was the commandant of the National Defence College, Bangladesh. He is serving as a chairman of Hamdard Public College's governing body.

He is the former Director General of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) and General officer Commanding (GOC) of Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC). He has been honored as the Colonel Commandant of Regiment of Artillery of Bangladesh Army as he is the highest Ranking and senior longest serving officer of Regiment of Artillery of Bangladesh Army.

Lieutenant General Shailesh Tinaikar, SM, VSM, is a retired Indian Army officer who served as the Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), the second biggest peacekeeping operation. He served from 24 May 2019 to January 2022. He was appointed by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to succeed Lieutenant General Frank Mushyo Kamanzi of Rwanda. He is the former director general of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI). He also served as general officer commanding (GOC), 11 Infantry Division and area commander, Bogura Area.

Major General Cheryl Ann Pearce, is a senior officer in the Australian Army and a former deputy commissioner in the Australian Border Force. She graduated from the Officer Cadet School, Portsea and was commissioned into the Royal Australian Corps of Military Police in 1985. She has commanded the Defence Police Training Centre (2003), 1st Military Police Battalion (2006–08), Task Group Afghanistan (2016) and Australian Defence Force Academy (2017–18). Pearce has served on operations in East Timor and Afghanistan, and was Force Commander, United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus from January 2019 to January 2021. Pearce retired from full-time service in the army following her return from Cyprus and was appointed Deputy Commissioner Ports and Enforcement in the Australian Border Force in August 2021. She returned to the army in June 2023, on being appointed Deputy Chief of Army.

Ashab Uddin is a Retired Major General of Bangladesh Army. He has also served as Bangladesh's ambassador to Kuwait and Yemen.
