The politics of Nepal functions within the framework of a parliamentary republic with a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the Prime Minister and their cabinet,while legislative power is vested in the Parliament.
The Communist Party of Nepal is the second largest political party in Nepal. As per the results of recent elections,CPN (UML) stands as the second largest party of Nepal at all levels of government. There have been four prime ministers from the party while the party has led the government five times. CPN (UML) currently serves as the opposition in the Federal Parliament of Nepal and all of the seven provincial assemblies. As of 2021,the party claims to have nearly 600,000 members.

Upendra Yadav is a Nepalese politician who has served as the chairman of the People's Socialist Party,Nepal since 2020. He served as the Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal under the government of KP Sharma Oli from 2018 to 2020. He also served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Dahal cabinet from 2008 to 2009 and in the Khanal cabinet in 2011.

Rabindra Prasad Adhikari was a Nepali politician and three time parliamentarian,belonging to the Nepal Communist Party (NCP). He was Minister of Culture,Tourism and Civil Aviation from 16 March 2018 until his death in a helicopter crash. He was the Kaski District secretary of the party. In the 2008 Constituent Assembly election,Adhikari was elected from the Kaski-3 constituency,with 13,386 votes. In the 2013 Constituent Assembly election,he was re-elected from the Kaski-3 constituency,with 15,456 votes. In 2017,CPN-UML candidate Rabindra Adhikari won parliamentary elections from Kaski Constituency No. 2. Representing the left alliance,Adhikari secured 27,207 votes to defeat Nepali Congress candidate Dev Raj Chalise,who got 18,661 votes. After his demise,his wife Bidya Bhattarai won Kaski Constituency-2 with a wide margin of 8,403 votes in the by-election. Bhattarai secured 24,394 votes while her nearest contender Khem Raj Poudel from main opposition Nepali Congress got 15,991. Likewise,Socialist Party's Dharma Raj Gurung got 1,922 votes. He authored the books Constituent Assembly,Democracy and Re-structuring.
Agni Prasad Sapkota is a Nepalese politician and current speaker of the House of Representatives. He was elected speaker unopposed on 26 January 2020,after the previous speaker,Krishna Bahadur Mahara,resigned over allegations of attempted sexual assault. Sapkota previously served as a minister in the cabinets of prime ministers Jhala Nath Khanal and KP Sharma Oli.
Barsaman Pun,also known by his nom de guerre Ananta,is a Nepali communist politician and former Minister for Energy,Water Resources and Irrigation. He is also a member of the Standing Committee in Nepal Communist Party (NCP). He has previously served as Minister of Finance and Minister of Peace and Reconstruction. He was a leader of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist-Centre) during the insurgency period and served as one of 4 deputy commanders of People's Liberation Army.
General elections were held in Nepal in two phases on 26 November and 7 December 2017 to elect the 275 members of the fifth House of Representatives,the lower house of the Federal Parliament of Nepal. The election was held alongside the first provincial elections for the seven provincial assemblies. A political deadlock between the governing Nepali Congress and the winning left-wing coalition over the system used to elect the upper house led to delay in forming the new government. Following the announcement of final result by the Election Commission,K.P. Oli of Communist Party of Nepal was sworn in as Prime Minister on 15 February 2018 by the President according to Article 76 (2) of the constitution. He passed a Motion of Confidence on 11 March 2018 with 208 votes.

Ganga Bahadur Tamang Dong is a Nepali politician and a member of the House of Representatives of the federal parliament of Nepal. He was elected from Kavre-1 constituency,representing Communist Party of Nepal of the left alliance,under the first-past-the-post system. He defeated his nearest rival,Tirtha Bahadur Lama of Nepali Congress securing 43,631 votes against Lama's 39,605. Prior to that,he had only contested one local level election and lost.
Kishore Singh Rathore is a Nepali politician and Deputy general secretary of Neapli Congress. Rathore is also a member of the House of Representatives elected under the proportional representation system from Nepali Congress filling the reserved seat for Khas-Arya group. He is also a member of the House Finance Committee. In the shadow cabinet of Nepali Congress,he was the coordinator of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Mahendra Ray Yadav is a Nepali politician and a member of the House of Representatives of the federal parliament of Nepal. He is the current central committee chairman of Socialist Party of Nepal.
Mina Subba is a Nepali politician and a member of the House of Representatives of the federal parliament of Nepal. She was elected under the proportional representation system from Nepali Congress,filling the reserved seat for women and indigenous groups. She is a member of the House Public Accounts Committee. She is also a member of the Ministry of Water Supply in the shadow cabinet formed by the main opposition party,Nepali Congress.
Mohammad Aftab Alam is a Nepali politician from the Nepali Congress and a suspended member of the House of Representatives of the federal parliament of Nepal. He was a member of the first constituent assembly as well. He is also a former Minister for Labour and Transport Management.
Parbati Kumari Bisunkhe is a Nepali communist politician and a member of the House of Representatives of the federal parliament of Nepal. Elected under the proportional representation system from CPN UML,she represents Communist Party of Nepal in the parliament. She is an influential politician in Dailekh District.
Uma Shankar Aragriya is a Nepalese politician belonging to the CPN (UML) who served as the Minister of Culture,Tourism and Civil Aviation since 4 June 2021 but was removed from the post by Supreme Court on 22 June 2021 making the tenure of just 18 days and shortest till date. He was also a member of the 1st Federal Parliament of Nepal after winning in 2017 Nepalese general election from Dhanusha 2 constituency. Arglariya formerly a popular leader,is thought to join Nepali Congress as his party,Loktantrik Samajwadi Party went clean swept in Dhanusha district in recent local level election.
