Monarch was launched at South Shields in 1799. She became a transport. In 1809 her owners had her lengthened. In 1816 she made a voyage to Batavia. Then in 1818 she carried migrants from Liverpool to Quebec. She was last listed in 1825.

In 1813 the British East India Company had lost its monopoly on the trade between India and Britain. British ships were then free to sail to India, the Indian Ocean, or south-east Asia under a licence from the EIC. [2] Monarch made such a voyage, even though she does not appear in the most comprehensive list of such vessels, [3] or in lists of vessels sailing under a licence.
On 16 May 1816, Monarch, Gascoyne, master, sailed from Portsmouth, bound for Batavia. From Batavia she sailed to Bengal, where she arrived on 1 February 1817. By 10 December she was at the Cape of Good Hope, having come from Bengal. On 5 January 1818 she arrived at St Helena, and the next day sailed for England. She arrived at Liverpool in late February, having lost her mizzenmast, sails, and boats in a gale off the Western Islands. [4]

On 16 August 1818, Monarch, Thornhill, master, arrived at Quebec with 50 settlers. The voyage from Liverpool had taken 66 days. [5]
Monarch continued to be listed until 1825, however she had not been surveyed since 1818, and Monarch, Thornhill, master, did not appear in Lloyd's List 's ship arrival and departure data after 1818.
Albion was a sailing ship of two decks and three masts, built at Bristol, England, and launched in 1813. She made three voyages transporting convicts to Van Diemen's Land and New South Wales. She also traded with Jamaica, India, and Quebec. For two of the voyages to India she was an "extra" ship to the British East India Company (EIC).
Elizabeth was a merchant ship built at Chepstow, Wales in 1809. She made three voyages transporting convicts from England and Ireland to Australia. Elizabeth is no longer listed after 1832 and may have been lost in 1831.
Tyne was launched in 1807 in Rotherhithe. She spent the first part of her career as a West Indiaman. However, in 1810–1811 she made a voyage to India for the British East India Company (EIC) as an "extra" ship, i.e., under charter. Thereafter, with a change of owners, she traded with the Far East under a license issued by the EIC. Then in 1818 she made a voyage to Port Jackson, New South Wales transporting convicts. A fire destroyed her in 1828 in Bombay Harbour.
Ocean was launched in 1802 at Quebec. She made five voyages under charter to the British East India Company (EIC) between 1804 and 1814. Her owners then sold her and she continued to sail between Britain and India under a license issued by the EIC. In 1815–1816 she made one voyage transporting convicts to Australia. She was last listed in 1825.
Hebe, built in Hull in 1810, made two notable voyages, one voyage as an extra ship for the British East India Company (EIC), and one voyage transporting convicts to New South Wales. In between, an American privateer captured Hebe, but the British Royal Navy recaptured her. Hebe was wrecked in 1833.
Claudine was launched at Calcutta in 1811. She made two voyages transporting convicts, one to Van Diemen's Land in 1821 and one to New South Wales in 1829. In between, she made one voyage under charter to the British East India Company. Her captain deliberately grounded her in November 1840 to survive a storm, but she was able to return to service. She was broken up in 1849.
Caesar was launched in 1810 on the Thames River. She sailed first as a West Indiaman, and then after 1814 to the East Indies under a license from the British East India Company (EIC). In 1817 she repatriated from Batavia to London Lord William Amherst and the officers and crew of HMS Alceste. Caesar was last listed in 1825.
British Army was launched in 1811 at Quebec. She initially traded across the Atlantic. After the British East India Company in 1814 lost its monopoly on the trade with the East Indies, British Army made several voyages there. She then traded across the Atlantic again, and to the Mediterranean. A wave wrecked her at sea in 1822 in the Atlantic.
Aurora was launched in 1790 at Calcutta. The first 10 years of her career are currently obscure. In 1801 she made a voyage to England for the British East India Company (EIC), and then was briefly registered in England. She returned to India to continue to sail as a "country ship" until she was sold to Portuguese or Spanish owners in 1811. She returned to British ownership circa 1816 and made a second voyage for the EIC, this time from China to England. She returned to English registry and made one voyage to India under a license from the EIC. She then switched to sailing between Liverpool and Quebec and was lost in the Atlantic around 1822.
Aberdeen was launched at Quebec in 1811. She sailed to England and then traded between Quebec and Britain. She made two voyages to India under license from the British East India Company (EIC). After her return from the second, in 1820, she was no longer listed.
Stakesby was launched at Whitby in 1814. She carried immigrants to Quebec, traded with Batavia and Bombay, transported convicts to Van Diemen's Land, and made a voyage to Calcutta for the British East India Company (EIC). She disappeared in 1846 on a voyage from London to Quebec.
Theodosia was built at Shields in 1782. She spent 20 years trading with the Baltic, and then another dozen trading with North America and the Baltic. From 1816 she traded with India, sailing under a license from the British East India Company. She was wrecked while returning from a voyage to India in 1825.
Lord Suffield was launched in 1816 at Great Yarmouth. She made a voyage to Peru that proved unsuccessful after the insurgent forces detained and then released her, under pressure from the Royal Navy. Next, she made several voyages to Bengal under a licence from the British East India Company (EIC). Finally, she grounded on 17 April 1832 in Pentland Firth and was wrecked.
Emperor Alexander was launched in 1813 at Chepstow. Relatively early in her career she made two voyages to India and the East Indies under a license from the British East India Company (EIC). On her return she became a West Indiaman, and also sailed to South America, North America, and the Baltic. She carried immigrants to Quebec and transported convicts to Tasmania. She was condemned in 1835 following damage at sea on her way to the Cape and India.
Westmoreland was launched at Whitby in 1800. She first sailed as a West Indiaman. From 1816 to 1821 and then again from 1823 to 1825 she sailed to India under a license from the British East India Company (EIC). Her crew abandoned her at sea on 22 October 1825. She eventually floated ashore on the coast of France and was salvaged.
Kent was launched at Chittagong in 1814. Between 1814 and 1823 Kent sailed between India and Great Britain under a licence from the British East India Company (EIC). In 1823 she was sold in England. From then until she was last listed in 1831 she sailed between Liverpool and Africa.
David Shaw was launched at Whitehaven in 1805. She quickly became a West Indiaman. Between 1817 and 1821 she made two voyages to New South Wales, returning from the second voyage via Batavia and Mauritius. She suffered a major maritime incident in 1822. Prior to 3 July 1826, her crew abandoned her at sea waterlogged.
Woodman was launched at Gainsborough in 1808. She traded with northern Spain and then became a West Indiaman, and later a government transport. From 1816 on she made several voyages to India and South East Asia, sailing under a licence from the British East India Company (EIC). She also made two voyages transporting convicts, one to New South Wales (NSW) in 1823 and one to Van Diemen's Land in 1825. She was lost in 1836.
Bengal was launched at Greenock in February 1815. She was the first vessel built in Scotland for the East India trade. She immediately made three voyages to India, sailing under a licence from the British East India Company (EIC). She then traded with the United States, alternating that with other voyages to India. In 1819, on one voyage to India, she was anchored at Calcutta and the venue for a party that resulted in her captain, surgeon, and about a fifth of the guests all dying within days of an unknown disease. She was wrecked in about 1847.
Prince Regent was launched at Rochester in 1811. She initially traded with the West Indies and the Mediterranean. From 1814 on she started trading with the Indian Ocean and India, sailing under a licence from the British East India Company (EIC). In 1820–1821 she transported convicts from Ireland to New South Wales. She continued to trade with Australia. In 1841–1842 she made a second voyage transporting convicts from Ireland, this time to Hobart. In about 1843 new owners shifted her home port to Hull. From there she traded with Quebec, the Baltic, Aden, and perhaps elsewhere. In 1863 she was at Alicante, Spain where she grounded. She was condemned as not worth repairing.
