Mohegan Elementary School

Mohegan Elementary School is located at 49 Golden Rd, Montville, CT 06382.

It was opened in 1959 as a K-8 grade school for students who occupied the lands that had formerly comprised the Mohegan Reservation and its immediate surrounding area. The school was expanded in 1966 to accommodate the growth of the community. [1] Mohegan Elementary School became a K-6 grade school in 1963. With the opening of Tyl Middle School in 1992, Mohegan then became a K-5 grade school [1] .

The Mohegan are an Algonquian Native American tribe historically based in present-day Connecticut. Today the majority of the people are associated with the Mohegan Indian Tribe, a federally recognized tribe living on a reservation in the eastern upper Thames River valley of south-central Connecticut. It is one of two federally recognized tribes in the state, the other being the Mashantucket Pequot, whose reservation is in Ledyard, Connecticut. There are also three state-recognized tribes: the Schaghticoke, Paugusett, and Eastern Pequot.

The Board of Education offices were moved to 382 Long Hill Avenue after the Ripton school closed and was renovated to accommodate the Board of Education offices.

Montville High School is located in Oakdale, Connecticut and serves all communities belonging to the Montville School District. The student population comprises grades 9–12 and is typically about 800 students. The school is located near Leonard J. Tyl Middle School.
