"What Hurts the Most" is a song written by American songwriter Jeffrey Steele and English songwriter Steve Robson. Originally recorded by country music artist Mark Wills in 2003 on his album And the Crowd Goes Wild, it was covered by Bellefire a year later. The first version to be released as a single was by pop singer Jo O'Meara in 2005, from the album Relentless. Later that year, country band Rascal Flatts covered the song as well, releasing it as the first single from the 2006 album Me and My Gang, topping the U.S. country and adult contemporary charts with it. "My Wicked Heart" is a song co-written and co-produced by English singer Diana Vickers. It was digitally released on 17 October 2010 and physically released on 1 November 2010 by RCA Records in the United Kingdom. The track was inspired by indie music including The xx and The Doors and features Vickers playing the trumpet. Vickers performed the single live on the seventh series of The X Factor on 17 October 2010. "My Wicked Heart" received commercial success peaking at number 13 on the UK Singles Chart making it Vickers' second top 20 single. The single is not included on an album due to Vickers leaving the label it was recorded under.
"Heaven" is the debut solo single from Scottish recording artist Emeli Sandé. It was released by Virgin Records after she signed a record deal with the label after the success of single "Never Be Your Woman" which Sandé was featured as a guest artist. It was also the first release from Sandé's debut album, Our Version of Events, on 14 August 2011. The single was added to BBC Radio 1's playlist in June 2011. A year after its first release, in August 2013, It was announced that "My Kind of Love" would serve as the second single for the American market, after "Next to Me" was released as the album's first single. A brand new music video for the American release began production in mid-August.
