Moorhouse was a New Zealand boy band consisting of members Jason Aileone (born 1993), Brock Ashby (born 1993), Rory McKenna (born 1993), Marley Sola Wilcox-Nanai (born 1995) and Rameka Uitime-Paraki (born 1993). They formed in Christchurch in 2012 and are best known for their appearance in the first New Zealand series of The X Factor where they and were the tenth contestant eliminated. Competing in the Groups category, they were mentored by Melanie Blatt. [1] Their debut single "Mama Said" was released in August 2013, peaking at number eight in the New Zealand charts. Early life

Moorhouse was formed in Christchurch in mid-2012, originally with the line-up of Rory McKenna, Brock Ashby, Jason Aileone and Rameka Uitime-Paraki and eventually made a quintet by the addition of Marley Sola Wilcox-Nanai. The group took their name from their rehearsal studio's location on Moorhouse Avenue, one of the "four avenues" surrounding Christchurch's city centre. The group became known online for their covers of songs uploaded to YouTube.[ citation needed ] In September 2012 the original quartet performed on TVNZ shows The Erin Simpson Show What Now and Good Morning .[ citation needed ] In October they won a Mai FM competition to perform as the opening act for Jay Sean's Auckland show.[ citation needed ] In 2012 Moorhouse met with an A&R representative from Sony Music New Zealand, but nothing eventuated. [5] The group performed at the Parachute music festival in January 2013. [6]

The X Factor

Moorhouse initially attended the Hamilton pre-audition on 29 January 2013, as they were in town for the Parachute music festival.[ citation needed ] From there were put through to the judges' auditions. At their judges' audition, they performed an a cappella version of Justin Bieber's "As Long as You Love Me". Moorhouse originally auditioned as a five-piece group, but before the bootcamp round, fifth member Rameka left to pursue an opportunity in rugby.[ citation needed ] Moorhouse competed in the Groups category and were mentored by former All Saints singer Melanie Blatt. Moorhouse were in the bottom two only once, winning the sing-off against hip hop duo L.O.V.E in week three. Moorhouse were eliminated in the semi-final, immediately voted off with the lowest public votes. [7]

Post-The X Factor

After The X Factor, Sony Music New Zealand signed Moorhouse in August 2013. Moorhouse's debut single "Mama Said", which had originally been recorded as their potential The X Factor winner's single, was released digitally on 23 August 2013. [8] [9]

In the summer of 2013-2014, Moorhouse performed at a number of festivals, including the Christmas in the Park event in Christchurch and Parachute music festival. [10]

In 2014, Moorhouse released their second single "Take a Picture", which saw the return of Rameka Uitime-Paraki to the group.[ citation needed ] A music video accompanied the single soon after. Later in the year they released their third single, "Somebody Loves You", followed by their self-titled debut album Moorhouse. [11] Despite their debut single charting at # 8 in the New Zealand singles chart, neither of their subsequent singles nor their album charted. In February 2015, Moorhouse announced via social media that they had broken up.[ citation needed ]

Since then she has performed showcases at CMJ in New York and The Viper Room in LA; toured with Mt Eden, Cut Copy, Evermore and Van She; and opened for acts including Diplo, Nero, Kimbra, Digitalism and Garbage. She was one of the four judges in season one of The X Factor NZ, and was the runner-up mentor when her act Whenua Patuwai came second in the competition.

Titanium was a New Zealand pop boy band formed in Auckland in 2012 from the winners of The Edge radio station's competition to create New Zealand's first authentic boy band. The Edge radio station hosted auditions across New Zealand and eventually six young men were selected for the group consisting of members, Zac Taylor, Andrew Papas, Jordi Webber, Shaquille Paranihi-Ngauma, Haydn Linsley and T.K Paradza. They released their debut single, "Come On Home". The single debuted at number one on the official New Zealand Singles Chart on 17 September 2012. Titanium released their debut studio album, All For You in December 2012. They became the first New Zealand band to have three songs in the Top 40 Singles Chart at one time.

The Collective were an Australian boy band consisting of members Trent Bell, Julian De Vizio, Zach Russell, Jayden Sierra and Will Singe. They were formed during the fourth season of The X Factor Australia in 2012 and were the last contestant eliminated. The Collective subsequently signed with Sony Music Australia and released their debut single "Surrender", which debuted at number six on the ARIA Singles Chart. The group's self-titled album, The Collective, was released in December 2012 and debuted at number 11 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The Collective disbanded in 2015 to pursue solo careers.

The contestants were split into the show's four traditional categories: Boys, Girls, Over 25s and Groups.

Jackie Thomas is a New Zealand singer who won the first New Zealand season of The X Factor in 2013. Competing in the Girls category, she was mentored in the series by Daniel Bedingfield. Her winner's single "It's Worth It" was released on 22 July 2013 and debuted at number one on the New Zealand Music Charts. The song became certified Gold in its first week and eventually reached Platinum by its third week.

Benjamin Tipene is a New Zealand singer-songwriter and musician. He is known for his appearance on the first New Zealand series of The X Factor where he was the last contestant eliminated Competing in the Boys category, he was mentored by Ruby Frost. His debut single "Walking on Water" was released on 29 July 2013 and debuted at number two on the Official New Zealand Music Chart and was certified platinum.

"Something I Need" is a song recorded by American pop rock band OneRepublic. It was released on August 25, 2013, through Mosley Music and Interscope Records as the third single from their third studio album, Native (2013). The song was written and produced by Ryan Tedder and Benny Blanco. It peaked at number six in Australia, where it has been certified 3× Platinum, and number four in New Zealand, where it has been certified Gold.

<i>The X Factor</i> (Australian TV series) season 6 Season of television series

The X Factor was an Australian television reality music competition, based on the original UK series, to find new singing talent; the winner of which received a Sony Music Australia recording contract. Season 6 premiered on the Seven Network on 13 July 2014 and ended on 20 October 2014. Luke Jacobz returned as host, while Dannii Minogue, Redfoo, Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Ronan Keating returned as judges. Comedy duo Luke & Wyatt joined the sixth season as the hosts of the online spin-off show The Fan Factor. The winner was Marlisa Punzalan and her winner's single "Stand by You" was released after the final. Punzalan became the youngest winner of the show at 15 years old and was the first contestant from the Girls category to do so. She was mentored by Keating, who won as mentor for the second time after previously mentoring season two winner Altiyan Childs in 2010.

Ma-V-Elle is a three-piece New Zealand girl group best known for their top-40 singles in the New Zealand charts in the mid 1990s. The group consists of Lavina Williams, Marina Davis and Maybelle Galuvao.

Whenua Patuwai is a New Zealand singer. He is known for his appearance on the first New Zealand series of The X Factor where he was the runner-up. Competing in the Boys category, he was mentored by Ruby Frost. His debut single "Something Special" was released in July 2013 and peaked at number three in the New Zealand singles chart. His debut album The Soul Sessions was released in June 2014 and debuted at number four in the album chart.

Dean Pritchard, better known by his stage name Dean Ray, is an Australian singer and songwriter. In 2014, he was the runner-up on the sixth season of The X Factor Australia. Ray subsequently received a recording contract with Sony Music Australia and released his debut single "Coming Back", which debuted at number one on the ITunes Singles Chart and number five on the ARIA Singles Chart. This was followed by the release of his self-titled debut album in November 2014, which debuted at number five on the ARIA Albums Chart and was certified gold by the Australian Recording Industry Association.

Fleur Lillibeth Yolande East is an English singer-songwriter, rapper and presenter. East competed on the second series of The X Factor in 2005 as part of the girl group Addictiv Ladies but was unsuccessful. In 2012, she signed with Strictly Rhythm and released songs with dance musicians including Drumsound & Bassline Smith and released One in a Million" (2013), which peaked at number fifty three on the UK Singles Chart. As a solo act she returned to The X Factor for its eleventh series, and finished in second place.

Stephen Reuben Tonkin, known as Stevie Tonks, is a New Zealand singer from Christchurch, who was the tenth contestant eliminated on the second season of The X Factor. In the boys category he was mentored by Natalie Bassingthwaighte, and before that by Natalia Kills.

Beau Monga is a New Zealand singer/beatboxer from Manurewa, who won the second season of the New Zealand version of The X Factor.
