Morris Owens (born February 14, 1953) is a former professional American football wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). He played for the Miami Dolphins from 1975 to 1976 and for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1976 to 1979. [1]

The 1976 San Diego Chargers season was the franchise's seventh season in the National Football League (NFL), and its 17th overall. The Chargers improved on their 2–12 record from 1975 and finished 6–8, but missed the playoffs for the 11th straight season. The Chargers started off the season by winning their first three games, but they struggled through the rest of the season by losing eight of their last eleven, which included four shutout losses, two of which were to division rival Denver.
Louis Edward Carter was an American professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL). He played for the Oakland Raiders and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Born in Laurel, Maryland, he was a third round pick of the Raiders in 1975 having been the MVP of the Coaches' All-American college all-star game in his senior year at Maryland. He came to the Bucs in the veteran allocation draft of 1976 and became a valuable member of the Buc offense during its first three seasons as a running back and occasional receiver out of the backfield. He also threw the first TD pass in franchise history when he was stopped at the line of scrimmage in a game against the Seahawks and then lobbed the ball across the line to receiver Morris Owens for an unlikely one-yard score. He carried the ball 11 times for 27 yards in his rookie season in Oakland and also had two receptions for 29 yards, but never played again in the NFL after leaving Tampa Bay. After retiring from pro football, Carter sold cars for Covington Buick in Silver Spring, Maryland. When the dealership closed, Carter joined the security team at University of Maryland Global Campus, where he was a security coordinator.
The 1976 San Francisco 49ers season was the franchise's 27th season in the National Football League and their 31st overall. The team had a new head coach in Monte Clark, who previously was an assistant coach of the Miami Dolphins, to replace Dick Nolan. They began the season with the goal of improving on their previous output of 5–9. They were able to do so, starting the season 6–1; however, after a four-game losing streak, they finished 8–6 and missed the playoffs. This would be the first, and only, season for Clark as head coach. He was let go during the 1977 off-season.

The Robert Morris Colonials are the athletic teams for Robert Morris University, in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh. The Colonials compete in NCAA Division I. In 2020, the school joined the Horizon League as a full member after leaving the Northeast Conference. Several RMU sports that are not sponsored by the Horizon League play in other conferences. Football plays in the Big South Conference, and men's and women's lacrosse respectively compete in the ASUN Conference and Mid-American Conference. The school colors are RMU Blue, RMU Red, and RMU Gray/Silver.

The Minnesota Morris Cougars football program represents the University of Minnesota Morris in college football at the NCAA Division III level. The football program was founded in 1961, a year after the University of Minnesota Morris was established. Minnesota Morris first joined NCAA Division II Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) in 1966. With a conference record of 0–34 from 1999 to 2002, Minnesota Morris decided to join NCAA Division III Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). Since joining the UMAC in 2003, Minnesota Morris' conference record is 55–77. The Cougars claim eight NSIC titles and two UMAC titles: 1970, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1984, 1986*, 1987*, 2006, and 2023. Since 2006, the Cougars have played all their home games at Big Cat Stadium in Morris, Minnesota. The team's current head coach is Marty Hoffmann.
