Moshe Hillel Hirsch (born Milton Hirsch [1] October 26, 1936) is the Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Slabodka in Bnei Brak, [2] Israel. He is a native of the United States who studied at Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood under the Talmudic tutelage of Rabbi Aharon Kotler.
He is the son-in-law of Mordechai Shulman, whom he succeeded as Rosh Yeshiva in Yeshivas Slabodka, who was the son-in-law of Issac Sher, who was the son-in-law of the Alter of Slabodka.
Hirsch is very involved in the halakhic leadership of Haredi Judaism. [3] Despite living in Israel, Hirsch is quite well known on the haredi rabbinical speaking circuit in America [4] [5] [6] Hirsch eulogized Noach Weinberg, well known for founding Aish Hatorah, for an English-speaking audience. [7]
In 1982, after the death of his father-in-law, he was appointed head of the yeshiva, alongside his brother-in-law Rabbi Nosson Tzvi Shulman and Rabbi Amram Zaks. Other heads of the yeshiva appointed include Rabbi Dov Landau and Rabbi Baruch Rosenberg.
Hirsch leads the 'HaMeshivim' organization, supporting hundreds of avrechim (young married scholars) in Lithuanian yeshivas across Israel, and guides the Lev Shomea organization for struggling youth.
Close to Rabbi Aharon Yehuda Leib Shteinman, he was appointed to the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah (Council of Torah Sages) of Degel HaTorah in 2012 and is increasingly involved in public and educational matters, including the establishment of yeshivas and issues of yeshiva students' engagement with society.
Family
Hirsch was born October 26, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY to Romanian immigrants David and Malvina Hirsch [8] and was raised in the Borough Park neighborhood in Brooklyn together with his brother Elias and twin sisters Judith and Lila. He married Avigail Shulman in 1963, [9] and permanently moved to Israel [10] where he had two children. His daughter is married to Rabbi Ben Zion Chadesh, serving as a Rosh Mesivta in the yeshiva, and his son, Rabbi Aharon, assists in managing the yeshiva and oversees new student admissions. His brother is Professor Eli Hirsch, [11] a Brandeis University philosopher specializing in metaphysics and epistemology.
Yitzchak Hutner, also known as Isaac Hutner, was an American Orthodox rabbi and rosh yeshiva (dean).
Aharon Kotler was an Orthodox Jewish rabbi and a prominent leader of Orthodox Judaism in Lithuania and the United States; the latter being where he founded Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood Township, New Jersey.
Hebron Yeshiva, also known as Yeshivas Hevron, or Knesses Yisroel, is a yeshiva. It originated in 1924 when the roshei yeshiva (deans) and 150 students of the Slabodka Yeshiva, known colloquially as the "mother of yeshivas", relocated to Hebron.

Aharon Yehuda Leib Shteinman, also Shtainman or Steinman, was a Haredi rabbi in Bnei Brak, Israel. Following the death of Yosef Shalom Elyashiv in 2012, he was widely regarded as the Gadol HaDor, the leader of the non-Hasidic Lithuanian Haredi Jewish world. Along with several other rabbis, Shteinman is credited with reviving and expanding the appeal of European-style yeshivas in Israel.
Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah is the supreme rabbinical policy-making council of the Agudat Yisrael and Degel HaTorah movements in Israel; and of Agudath Israel of America in the United States. Members are usually prestigious Roshei Yeshiva or Hasidic rebbes, who are also usually regarded by many Haredi Jews to be the Gedolim ("great/est") sages of Torah Judaism. Before the Holocaust, it was the supreme authority for the World Agudath Israel in Europe.
Aaron Moshe Schechter was an American Haredi rabbi. He was the rosh yeshiva (dean) of Yeshiva Rabbi Chaim Berlin and its post-graduate Talmudical division, Kollel Gur Aryeh. He also served on the presidium of Agudath Israel of America and was a member of that organization's Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah.
Yitzchak Shmuel Halevi Berkovits is an American-born Orthodox Jewish rabbi, rosh yeshiva, rosh kollel, and posek in Israel. In 16 years as Menahel Ruchani of Yeshivas Aish HaTorah and halakha lecturer at EYAHT, Aish HaTorah's College of Jewish Studies for Women, he built a reputation as a lucid orator on Jewish law and philosophical topics and a mentor to hundreds of English-speaking, baalei teshuva young men and women. In 2001, he founded The Jerusalem Kollel, a rabbinic ordination and training program which prepares students for kiruv (outreach) positions around the world. In 2019, he was appointed rosh yeshiva of Yeshivat Aish HaTorah in Jerusalem. He also serves as rosh kollel of an international network of evening kollelim run by Linas HaTzedek: The Center for Jewish Values in Israel and the United States, which spreads the awareness of the laws of bein adam lechaveiro.
Shmuel Yaakov Weinberg, known as Yaakov Weinberg was an Orthodox Jewish rabbi, Talmudist, and rosh yeshiva (dean) of Ner Israel Rabbinical College in Baltimore, Maryland, one of the major American non-Hasidic yeshivas. Weinberg was also a rabbinical advisor and board member in Haredi and Orthodox institutions such as Torah Umesorah, Agudath Israel of America and the Association for Jewish Outreach Programs.
Beth Medrash Govoha is a Haredi Jewish Lithuanian yeshiva in Lakewood Township, New Jersey. It was founded by Rabbi Aaron Kotler in 1943 and is the second-largest yeshiva in the world, after Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem. As of 2019, it had 6,715 students, 2,748 regular and 3,967 in Kollel status. The principal Rosh yeshiva since 1982 is Rabbi Malkiel Kotler. Talmud and halakha studies in the institution are carried in the form of over 200 small groups, Chaburos, which consist of several students mentored by a veteran, each pursuing its own specific curriculum with an emphasis on individual learning.
Yechiel Fishel Eisenbach was a Haredi rabbi and long-time rosh yeshiva of Shaar Hashamayim Yeshiva in Jerusalem. He was widely regarded as one of the greatest kabbalists in Israel, and was an expert in the writings of the Arizal and the siddur of the Rashash.
