Mount Everest Boarding School is one of the oldest private schools in Pokhara, Nepal.

History

In 1985, Dr. Vijay Raj Sharma, a prominent lecturer from Tribhuvan University, conceived the idea of a school to meet the education needs of the growing community in Pokhara. The school was established on 3rd Poush, 2042 (18 December 1985) by Dr. Vijay Raj Sharma. Regional educational director Anand Lal Pradhan was the chief guest at that programme.

In the year 2054 B.S., the students took the S.L.C. exams for the first time. All the students achieved 1st Division results.

The school is home to over 200 students.

The school motto is "Committed to Academic and Extracurricular Excellence".

Location

The school in situated in New Road, Pokhara. The Annapurna mountain range forms the scenic backdrop to the school.

Yog Raj Sharma is an Indian ophthalmologist and ex-Chief of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, the apex body of the National Programme for the Control of Blindness, a Government of India initiative to reduce the prevalence of blindness in India. He is the Chairman of the Task Force on Prevention and Control of Diabetic Retinopathy Group and the Co-Chairman of the National Task Force on Prevention of Blindness from Retinopathy of Prematurity under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of India. An advisor to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India, Sharma was honoured by the Government of India in 2015 with Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award. Yog Raj Sharma's published article on " Pars plana VITRECTOMY Vs scleral BUCKLING Inrhegmatogenous retinal detachment" in 2005 in Acta OPHTHALMOLOGICA SCANDINAVICA was cited in top 100 publications on retinal detachment management in the last ~121 years in the lead article in journal of American society of retina SPECIALISTS in November issue in 2021. Yog Raj Sharma was the first author and primary surgeon in study patients. Coauthors in the study included Dr Dr Sathiyan, Rajvardhan Azad, Deependra V Singh, Rajpal Vohra, Nikhi Pal, Parijat Cahandra . Dr Sharma called it 'the singular biggest achievement of his career" in an article published in Daily Excelsior,jammu in December, 2021. Of these top hundred publications on RETINAL detachment management, only nineteen countries contributed of 196 countries, three of the CONTRIBUTing countries were Asian and from India this study was the sole contribution. Gandaki College of Engineering and Science, referred to as GCES, is an independent non-profit institution co-located with the Gandaki Boarding School (GBS) in Lamachaur, Pokhara. Established with the genuine effort of Dr. P.V. Chandy, the then principal of GBS, GCES was founded in 1998 as an extension of GBS with the approval of GBS board, and the United Mission to Nepal. It is currently managed by the GBS/GCES public education trust under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, Nepal. It is affiliated to Pokhara University and provides a degree in B.E. Software, B.E. Computer(recently added) and complies with the Pokhara University's semester system and examination procedures.
