Mr. Irrelevant is an upcoming American film directed by Jeff Fisher, about a college quarterback who is drafted last, only to rise beyond expectations and personal adversity to achieve greatness. [1] The original screenplay was drafted by Steve Alten, whose novels inspired the The Meg franchise, [2] and Oscar winner Terry George ( Hotel Rwanda and In the Name of the Father ). This film will be the first football movie in history to be written by an Oscar winner. The team has also added as a consultant the legendary sports agent Leigh Steinberg, whose career inspired the film Jerry Maguire . Steinberg also consulted on films such as Any Given Sunday and For the Love of the Game and has represented clients including Patrick Mahomes, Troy Aikman and Steve Young. [3]
The film was announced in October 2022, with a script written by Steve Alten, author of The Meg and The Meg 2, a billion-dollar franchise. The producing team includes The Meg associate producer Ken Atchity, David Rubenstein, The Hunting Ground co-producer Nicole Ehrlich, Scott Becher of Win-Win Partnerships, and Samantha Skelton. Michael A. Pellegrino and Sherry D’Agostino at Artists Management Agency are representing the film's rights. Additionally, former Miami Dolphins quarterback and undrafted NFL football star Jay Fiedler contributes as a consultant.
