Anthony John Culverwell, known professionally as Mr Switch (formerly DJ Switch), is a British DJ and turntablist, based in Birmingham. [1] [2] [3] [4] Notable for having made remarkable achievements in his early teens, he has been crowned world champion three times.

Notable achievements

Switch won the DMC World DJ Championships (specifically in the 'Battle For Supremacy' category) in 2008. He successfully defended his title for the next two years, becoming the first person to achieve a triple-win in the supremacy battle. [5]

In 2011, Switch became the first DJ to have ever performed at the BBC Proms. He was the lead soloist in Gabriel Prokofiev's "Concerto For Turntables & Orchestra", conducted by Vladimir Jurowski & performed by the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. [6] [7] He has since performed the piece in Venezuela with the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra. [8]

The National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain (NYO-GB) is the national youth orchestra of the United Kingdom, consisting of 164 members of ages 13 to 19 years. Auditions take place in the autumn each year at various locations in the country. The minimum standard needed to audition is ABRSM / Trinity Guildhall / London College of Music Grade 8 Distinction, though it is not necessary to have taken any examinations. In 2011, the orchestra was shortlisted for the Royal Philharmonic Society's Best Ensemble Award. In 2012, the NYO received the Queen's Medal for Music. In 2015 the NYO received the Royal Philharmonic Society's Ensemble award, which recognized particularly the launch of NYO Inspire as well as their other work.

Ten Pieces is a music education scheme created by journalist Katy Jones for BBC Music which began with a namesake film hosted by Barney Harwood created for CBBC that originally aired on 3 October 2014. Stoika Milanova is a Bulgarian classical violinist and academic teacher. She was taught by her father using a method that he developed, and later by the violinist David Oistrakh. After placing second in the Queen Elisabeth Competition (1967) and winning the Carl Flesch Competition (1970), Milanova began an international career as a soloist and recitalist, which was at its height during the 1970s and early 1980s.
