Ranchi is the capital of the Indian state of Jharkhand. Ranchi was the centre of the Jharkhand movement, which called for a separate state for the tribal regions of South Bihar, northern Odisha, western West Bengal and the eastern area of what is present-day Chhattisgarh. The Jharkhand state was formed on 15 November 2000 by carving out the Bihar divisions of Chota Nagpur and Santhal Parganas. Kunwar Pratap Singh Barhath, also known as ‘Kunwar Ji’, was an Indian revolutionary & anti-British activist known for his role in the revolutionary plot to assassinate the Viceroy of India, Charles Hardinge in 1912. He was a prominent member of the Revolutionary Party led by Ras Bihari Bose. In December 1912, at the procession of the Viceroy in Delhi, Pratap Singh was with his uncle, Zorawar Singh Barhath, who threw the bomb at Lord Hardinge. He led the Benaras Conspiracy, part of the larger Ghadar Movement, to lead the Armed Rebellion of 1915 against the British Raj. In 1916, he was arrested and imprisoned in the Banaras Conspiracy Case and sentenced to 5 years in jail. Subjected to brutal physical torture to weaken him, he refused to divulge the names of other co-conspirators and continued to suffer and died as a martyr on 7 May 1918.

Singh is an Indian Politician and a prominent leader of Bharatiya Janata Party, he has served as Minister of Urban Development, Transport, Parliamentary Affairs, Registration, Housing, Disaster Management & Civil Aviation in the Govt. of Jharkhand and was also Chairman of Jharkhand Legislative Assembly i.e. ‘Speaker’ from 2010-2013. He is member of Jharkhand legislative assembly from Capital City Ranchi for over decades, and is elected six times in a row since 1996, more than any other BJP leader of Jharkhand.
Amrendra Pratap Singh is an Indian politician and a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly serving as a minister in the Government of Bihar. He is the grandson of Harihar Singh, the former Chief Minister of Bihar.

Thakur Zorawar Singh Barhath was an Indian revolutionary and independence activist. He is known for the assassination attempt on the Viceroy of India, Lord Hardinge by throwing a bomb on him during the procession in New Delhi. He is also called "Chandra Shekhar Azad of Rajasthan".
