A closely related species in the same genus is Buchanania lanzan, a deciduous tree with tomentose (hairy) branches. [5] Its local name in Hindi is Chironji. Its seeds have almond-like flavour. [6] It is grown in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andaman Islands in India, apart from Sri Lanka and Mayanmar. [7] [8]

It is not be confused with Muttai Ma, which is a served as a Tamil dish made with egg as the main ingredient, along with flour and sugar. The Sri Lankan Tamils use it as a strengthening food. Muttai means egg and ma means flour in Tamil. [9] Other different dishes made out of the seeds and kernel of Mudaima (B. lanzan) are offered as a dish by Tamilians and some Maratha people.[ citation needed ]
