Mahbubur Rahman is a retired lieutenant general of the Bangladesh Army who served as the Chief of Army Staff of the Bangladesh Army [1] from May 1996 to December 1997. He was graduated from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology in civil engineering. He was commissioned in the Pakistan Army Corps of Engineers from 17 special course on 2 March 1964.[ citation needed ]

Early Life and Education

He was born in Biral Upazila, Dinajpur District. He passed his matriculation from Dinajpur Zila School in 1956. He completed his intermediate from Dhaka College. In 1963 he completed his B.Sc in civil engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. Later he joined the Pakistan Army. [2]

Military Career

He was commissioned in the Pakistan Army Corps of Engineers from 17 Special Course on 2 March 1964.[ citation needed ]

Politics

He joined Bangladesh Nationalist Party after retirement from Bangladesh Army. [3] He is a former standing committee member of BNP. [4] In the 8th National Parliament election in 2001, he was elected as a member of parliament from Dinajpur-2 constituency on the nomination of BNP. [5] He left BNP in 2019. [6] [7]

The Bangladesh Army is the land warfare branch, and the largest component of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. The primary mission of the Army is to defend the land of Bangladesh from any external attack. Mohammad Ataul Gani Osmani was a Bangladeshi military officer and revolutionary. His military career spanned three decades, beginning with his service in the British Indian Army in 1939. He fought in the Burma Campaign during World War II, and after the partition of India in 1947, he joined the Pakistan Army and served in the East Bengal Regiment, retiring as a colonel in 1967. He was 2IC of the 1st Bengal Lancers Regiment of the Bangladesh Army who led a group of junior army officers in order to overthrow the regime of Sheikh Mujib and install Khondaker Mushtaque Ahmed as president of Bangladesh.
