Muhammad Shafiqul Alam BBP, OSP, BSP, ndc, fawc, psc is a retired officer of Bangladesh Air Force and former assistant chief of air staff (operations and training). [1] Earlier, he was assistant chief of air staff (plans). [2] He also served as air officer commanding of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) Base Bashar. [3]
He was commissioned in Bangladesh Air Force in GD(P) branch on 30 December 1985. AVM Alam is currently serving as director, Board of Directors of Biman Bangladesh Airlines as an additional responsibility. [4] In several occasions, he served as acting chief of air staff throughout October to December 2021. [5] [6]
Biman Bangladesh Airlines, commonly known as Biman, is the national flag carrier of Bangladesh. With its main hub at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, the airline also operates flights from its secondary hubs at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong and as well as Osmani International Airport in Sylhet. The airline provides international passenger and cargo services to multiple destinations and has air service agreements in 42 countries. The headquarters of the airline, Balaka Bhaban, is located in Kurmitola, in the northern part of Dhaka. Annual Hajj flights, transporting tourists, migrants, and non-resident Bangladeshi workers and the activities of its subsidiaries form an integral part of the corporate business of the airline. Bangladesh's air transport sector, which is experiencing an 8% annual growth rate thanks to a large number of outbound tourists, domestic tourists, and non-resident Bangladeshi travellers, is very competitive with stiff competition among some private Bangladeshi airlines as well as Biman.
The Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) is the aerial warfare branch of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. The air force is primarily responsible for air defence of Bangladesh's sovereign territory as well as providing air support to the Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Navy. Furthermore, the BAF has a territorial role in providing tactical and strategic air transport and logistics capability for the country.
Air Chief Marshal Pratap Chandra Lal, DFC was the Chief of Air Staff (CAS) of the Indian Air Force (IAF) during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. He served in the IAF from 1939 until his retirement in 1973. He was the CAS at the time of Operation Chengiz Khan, the preemptive strikes that were carried out by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) that marked the formal initiation of hostilities of the war.

Air Marshal (retd.) Muhammad Enamul Bari is a former Bangladesh Air Force officer whose last assignment before retiring was the 13th Chief of Air Staff of Bangladesh Air Force. He retired on 12 June 2015, after over 30 years of service. He also served as the Chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the flag carrier of Bangladesh for nearly four years. He was replaced by Sajjadul Hassan as the chairperson of Bangladesh Biman.
Air Marshal (retd.) Jamal Uddin Ahmed is a former chief of Air Staff, the highest appointment in the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF), and former chairman of the board of directors of Biman Bangladesh. He was promoted to Air Marshal by then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the day of his retirement from the BAF in 2001. Three years later, the Khaleda Zia government voided his promotion, declaring it unlawful because there was no such post in the BAF's organizational chart. He appealed the decision to the High Court, which in 2008 restored his rank of air marshal, ruling that he had been stripped of it illegally.
Air Vice Marshal (retd.) Abdul Ghaffar Mahmud is a former chief of the Bangladesh Air Force. He negotiated the release of hostages from the hijacked Japan Airlines Flight 472. For his role in keeping the situation under control and securing the lives of every single passenger, the Japanese government conferred upon him the "Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star" awards.
Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria, is a retired Indian Air Force officer, who served as the Chief of the Air Staff of the Indian Air Force, having assumed office on 30 September 2019 after the retirement of Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa. He retired on 30 September 2021 and was succeeded by Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari.

Badrul Alam was a squadron leader of the Bangladesh Air Force who fought in the Bangladesh War of Independence, for which the government of Bangladesh gave him the Bir Uttam award, the second highest award for individual gallantry in Bangladesh. In 2016, he received the Independence Day Award.

Prior to this position, he served as a bureaucrat and the chairperson of Bangladesh Biman airlines. He is a former senior secretary at the Prime Minister's Office.
