Mukesh Persad (born 1 May 1970) is a Trinidadian cricketer. He played in forty first-class matches for Trinidad and Tobago from 1994 to 2003. [1]

United National Congress

The United National Congress (UNC) is one of two major political parties in Trinidad and the current opposition party. The UNC is a centre-left party. It was founded in 1989 by Basdeo Panday, a Trinidadian lawyer, economist, trade unionist, and actor after a split in the ruling National Alliance for Reconstruction (NAR). After spending six years in opposition, the UNC won control of the government in 1995. In the 2000 general election, the UNC won an absolute majority in the Parliament. In 2001, a split in the party caused the UNC to lose its parliamentary majority and control of the government. From 2001 to 2010, the UNC was once again Parliamentary Opposition party. In May 2010, the UNC returned to government as the majority party in the People's Partnership. Indo-Caribbeans or Indian-Caribbeans, are Indian people who live in the Caribbean. They are descendants of the jahaji Indian indentured workers brought by the British, the Dutch and the French during colonial times from the mid-19th century to the early 20th century. A minority are descendants of Indians and/or other South Asians who came after the indentureship period as shopkeepers, businessmen, etc.

Rakesh Yankaran, nicknamed The Raja is an Indo-Trinidadian musician. He is the son of the late Indian classical musician, Isaac Yankarran and brother of the late Indian classical and chutney musicians Anand, Suresh, and Sharm Yankaran. His grandfather came from Andhra Pradesh, India to Trinidad and Tobago during the indentured labour times. He is a self-taught musician. As a child, young Rakesh loved to listen to his father sing. As a teen he started to play music himself. Today he is a professional chutney artist. He can play the Indian instruments tabla, dholak, harmonium, dhantal, and the tassa drum.

Hinduism is the second largest religion in Trinidad and Tobago. Hindu culture arrived in 1845 in Trinidad and Tobago. In the 2011 census, There are 240,100 declared Hindus in Trinidad and Tobago. There are also various temples in Trinidad and Tobago to accommodate Hindus.

Basdeo Panday is a Trinidadian lawyer, politician, trade unionist, economist, actor, and civil servant who served as the fifth Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago from 1995 to 2001. He was the first person of Indian descent along with being the first Hindu to hold the office of Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago.
