On the basis of the decision of the House of Federation and the Council of Ministers Regulation "Concerning the Provisional Administration of the Tigray National Regional State", Dr. Mulu Nega has been appointed as the Chief Executive of the Tigray Regional State. 1/2

During the Tigray conflict in November 2020, Mulu Nega was appointed as chief executive of the Transitional Government of Tigray by the House of Federation [3] to replace Debretsion Gebremichael of the Tigray People's Liberation Front as President of the Tigray Region. He appeared publicly on 11 February, after holding talks with Ahunna Eziakonwa of the United Nations Development Program on cooperation in reconstructing Tigray Region, in his role as head of the transitional government. Debretsion Gebremichael is an Ethiopian politician and the chairman of Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) he was also the president of the Tigray Region. His position as titular head of the Tigray Region was disputed by the federal government of Ethiopia who in November 2020 appointed Mulu Nega as the chief executive of the Transitional Government of Tigray, succeeded by Abraham Belay. Since July 2021, Debretsion leads again the Tigray Region, while Abraham Belay left the transitional government to become Ethiopia's minister of Defence.

Ato Abay Weldu is an Ethiopian politician who served as president of the Tigray Region from 2010 to 2018. He also served as the chairman of TPLF from September 2012 until November 2017. He was succeeded in both positions by Debretsion Gebremichael in January 2018 and November 2017. Abay Weldu joined TPLF in the late 1970s and has served as a member of the executive Committees of TPLF and now defunct EPRDF since 2000.

Abiy Ahmed Ali is an Ethiopian politician serving as the third Prime Minister of Ethiopia since 2018, and as a leader of the Prosperity Party since 2019. He was awarded the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize "for his efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation, and in particular for his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighbouring Eritrea". Abiy served as the third chairman of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) that governed Ethiopia for 28 years and the first person of Oromo descent to hold that position. The Tigray War was an armed conflict that lasted from 3 November 2020 to 3 November 2022. The war was primarily fought in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia between the Ethiopian federal government and Eritrea on one side, and the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) on the other.

The Transitional Government of Tigray was a caretaker administration that was formally declared by the House of Federation of Ethiopia on 7 November 2020, in the context of a conflict between the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), in power in the Tigray Regional State and the federal government of Ethiopia. In late November 2020, the administration, headed by Mulu Nega, planned public consultation and participation in choosing new leaders at the regional and zonal level and preservation of woreda and kebele administrations. The Transitional Government left Tigray in late June 2021 during Operation Alula.

She is a founder of the Nabad project and satellite television station for promoting communication and peace in Somali Region and between the Somali and Oromo communities. She was appointed the federal Ethiopian Minister of Women, Children and Youth on 12 March 2020, becoming the youngest person in the Abiy Ahmed cabinet. The Interim Regional Administration (IRA) of Tigray Region is an interim regional administration announced by the Office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia on March 23, 2023. This appointment was based on Article 10(1) of the Permanent Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA) signed in Pretoria between the Federal Government and the TPLF to end the conflict on November 2 last year, which called for the establishment of an inclusive Interim Regional Administration, and a decision by the House of Federation (HoF) to establish the interim administration of the Tigray regional state, as per Article 62 (9) of the Constitution proclamation 359/1995, article 14/2/B. On the same day, Ato Getachew Reda Kahsay was appointed as IRA head for undisclosed terms.
