Mungo's Hi Fi is a sound system based in Glasgow, Scotland, which follows the original Jamaican sound system tradition. After working together previously, Tom Tattersall and Doug Paine founded the group in 2000, writing, recording, producing and performing their own brand of reggae and dub music, working in collaboration with other artists and producers. They were joined in 2002 by Craig Macleod, and in 2006 by Jerome Joly.

Mungo's Hi Fi have released 10 albums alongside a number of EPs and singles, collaborating with a variety of artists including Mike "Prince Fatty" Pelanconi, Max Romeo, Charlie P and Daddy Freddy.

Lee "Scratch" Perry was a Jamaican record producer and singer noted for his innovative studio techniques and production style. Perry was a pioneer in the 1970s development of dub music with his early adoption of remixing and studio effects to create new instrumental or vocal versions of existing reggae tracks. He worked with and produced for a wide variety of artists, including Bob Marley and the Wailers, Junior Murvin, The Congos, Max Romeo, Adrian Sherwood, Beastie Boys, Ari Up, The Clash, The Orb, and many others.

Phillip Krokidis, known professionally as Phil K, was an Australian electronic music DJ and record producer from Melbourne. He was a member of the "Aussie breaks" music scene which also includes other Melbourne DJs such as Nubreed and Andy Page. In addition to DJing, Phil K also produced alongside Habersham and Dave Preston in The Operators and was also a member of Hi-Fi Bugs and Lostep. He was known primarily for his DJing of breakbeat music, but often weaved in other genres such as ambient, deep house, and techno and did not pigeonhole himself with a particular genre.

Mike Pelanconi, better known under his record name Prince Fatty, is a British sound engineer and record producer.

Victor Rice is an American musician, record producer and mix engineer from New York City. Raised in Huntington, New York, Rice attended the Manhattan School of Music and began his professional career in the late 1980s during ska music’s so-called third wave as both a bassist and producer. In the late 1990s he became a composer and sound designer for television. In 2002, Rice moved to Brazil and although he continued working as a producer, performer and sound designer, he shifted his focus and became renowned as a mix engineer, working with a variety of local groups representing a number of different genres.

Reggae is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. Australia has several bands and sound systems that play reggae music in a style faithful to its expression in Jamaica. Australia has a relatively small Jamaican community, but reggae penetrated local consciousness via the popularity of reggae among the non-Jamaican population of England in the 1960s and 1970s. Alberto D'Ascola, better known by his stage name Alborosie, is an Italian-Jamaican reggae artist. He is sometimes called the "Italian Reggae Ambassador".

Gabriel Piotrowski, better known by his stage name Biga Ranx, is a French ragga hip hop musician from Tours, Centre Region, signed to X-Ray Production, an independent record label based in Paris. He released his debut LP On Time in October 2011, and his second album Good Morning Midnight in April 2013. He has collaborated with Maffi, Ondubground, Mungo's Hi Fi and Joseph Cotton.

Gringo Records is a British independent record label based in Nottingham, England, which was founded in 1996. It is known for releasing experimental rock and its DIY ethic.

Scotch Bonnet Records is a reggae and dub record label established in Glasgow in 2005. Scrub a Dub is a sub-label of Scotch Bonnet that releases bass music while the main label releases reggae tracks. Scotch Bonnet Records releases many of the Mungo's Hi Fi releases and recordings and has released their latest album Serious Time on 2 June 2014.

Richard Patrick Bennett OD, better known by the stage name Charlie Chaplin, is a Jamaican dancehall and ragga singer and deejay. It was common for Jamaican deejays of the era to name themselves after film stars or characters. Bennett, however, had been nicknamed after the comedian since his youth. His career began in 1980 when he began working with U-Roy's Stur-Gav Hi-Fi collective. He became extremely popular throughout Jamaica, memorable for his focus on cultural and social themes instead of the "slack" lyrics that were popular at the time. His popularity as a live performer prompted Roy Cousins to produce some recording sessions with the young DJ. Chaplin's debut album was the Cousins-produced Presenting Charlie Chaplin in 1982, with several albums following for the producer over the next three years.

Crooked Beat Records, based in Alexandria, Virginia, is an independent record label which puts out music by artists from the Washington, DC area. The Crooked Beat label is affiliated with a record store of the same name. Crooked Beat has produced five seven-inch records and six albums, including tributes to The Clash and Jonathan Richman. Records released by Crooked Beat Records are distributed nationally for Record Store Day.
