The Murex d'Or (also known as the Golden Murex award) is a Lebanese arts award created in the year 2000. [1] It was established by two Lebanese physicians, Zahi and Fadi Helou to recognize achievements in the areas of theatre, film and singing in Lebanon, the Arab region and throughout the world. [2] The first Murex d'Or ceremony took place on June 4, 2000. The name of the award is a tribute to Phoenician Murex sea snails, which were used to dye cloth in imperial Tyrian purple. [3]
