North South University is a private research university in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was established in 1992 under the Private University Act, 1992 by the then Foundation for Promotion of Education and Research (FPER), a charitable, non-profit, non-commercial and non-political organization. The FPER later was renamed as the NSU Foundation and is presently called The North South Foundation for Education and Research.
Presidency University, Bangladesh is a private research university with a campus in Gulshan, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Aftab Ahmed was a Bangladeshi academic. He served as the 5th vice-chancellor of National University of Bangladesh. On 23 September 2006, Ahmed was assassinated at his Dhaka residence. Mofiqul Hasan Tripti, an influential politician of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, was arrested for the crime in August 2018.

M Alimullah Miyan is the pioneer of non-government university in Bangladesh and founder of the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT). He was director and professor at the University of Dhaka’s IBA, and founder chairman of the Centre for Population Management and Research (CPMR).
