Mutnuri Krishna Rao was an Indian freedom fighter, editor, scholar and literary critic. [2] [3] He was the editor of Krishna Patrika , a nationalist publication from 1907 to 1945. [4] [5] He is considered to be the doyen of Telugu journalism. [6]
Krishna Rao was born in a Brahmin family in 1879 in Mutnuru village of Divi taluk, Krishna district of erstwhile Madras Presidency. [5] He lost his parents when he was very young. His father was a district munsif. [5] He was brought up by his paternal uncle. He completed his primary education in Hindu high school, Bandar. He studied F. A. course in Noble college, Bandar. Raghupathi Venkataratnam Naidu was one of his teachers. Rao was influenced by his ideology and used to attend the meetings of Brahmo Samaj.
Later he went to Madras to study B. A. in Christian College. He got acquainted with Pattabhi Sitaramayya. As he focused more on literature, he returned to Bandar in 1903 without completing his degree. Inspired by Vande Mataram movement, he toured Bengal along with Bipin Chandra Pal in 1906. [5]
He lived with his wife. The couple had two daughters and a son. The eldest daughter and only son passed away before him, and his second daughter became a widow.
He joined Krishna Patrika as an assistant editor. He got promoted as an editor in 1907 and worked there till his death in 1945. [5] He criticized the policies of British government in his editorials regarding the amount spent on welfare of the poor and developing educational institutions. [6] He also ran a Magazine called Andhra Bharati for some time.
He died on 25 June 1945 because of Ascites. [7] The town hall in Machilipatnam is named after him.[ citation needed ]
The Telugu Teachers Association of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana marked the birth anniversary of Mutnuri Krishna Rao on November 18, 2022. [8] During this commemorative event, children were enlightened about the historical importance of Mutnuri Krishna Rao's contributions through 'Krishna Patrika' in 1945, along with an emphasis on the pivotal role played by journalists and their invaluable services to our nation.
Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, often referred to by his initials NTR, was an Indian actor, filmmaker and politician who served as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for seven years over three terms. He starred in over 300 films, predominantly in Telugu cinema, and was referred by the media as Viswa Vikhyatha Nata Sarvabhouma. Rao received three National Film Awards for co-producing Thodu Dongalu (1954) and Seetharama Kalyanam (1960) under National Art Theater, Madras, and for directing Varakatnam (1970). Akkineni Nageswara Rao, widely known as ANR, was an Indian actor and producer, known for his work majorly in Telugu cinema. He starred in many landmark films in his seventy five-year career, and became one of the most prominent figures of Telugu cinema. Akkineni received seven state Nandi Awards, and five Filmfare Awards South. He is a recipient of the Dada Saheb Phalke Award and Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian award, for his contributions to the fields of Art and Cinema.

Kasinadhuni Nageswararao, better known as Nageswara Rao Pantulu, was an Indian journalist, nationalist, politician, businessman, and a staunch supporter of Khaddar movement. He participated in the Indian independence movement and in the Indian National Congress party, including Mahatma Gandhi’s civil disobedience movement through salt satyagraha. He was conferred with the title Desabandhu by the people of Andhra Pradesh. He was a major financier of Congress activities in Andhra and Chennai and is also known for patenting Amrutanjan. He was conferred with the title Desoddhaaraka by the Andhra Mahasabha. In 1935, the Andhra University honoured him with Kalaprapoorna, an honorary doctorate of Literature.
The Tank Bund Road is a road in Secunderabad, Hyderabad, India. The Tank Bund dams Hussain Sagar lake on the eastern side and connects the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. It has become an attraction with 33 statues of famous people from the region.
Noble College in Machilipatnam was founded by late Robert Turlington Noble, an English missionary, in 1843. Rev. Noble came to then Masulipatnam as a Christian Missionary in 1841 and stayed until his death. He and his friend late Mr. Sharkey opened a native English school on 21 November 1843 as Noble High School. That school became Noble College later on. This school was termed by the head of the Madras Government "The Cambridge of South India." It is one of the first four educational institutions opened in India by the British Government.
N. T. Rama Rao (1923–1996), commonly known by his initials NTR, was an Indian actor, screenwriter, director and producer who worked primarily in Telugu cinema. Through his over four-decade long career of almost 300 films, he was considered one of the most pivotal figures of the Telugu industry. After his debut in Mana Desam (1949) and his first lead role in Palletoori Pilla (1950), Rama Rao's performance in the fantasy film Pathala Bhairavi (1951) made him famous. His other films with Vijaya Vauhini Studios, Malliswari (1951) and Pelli Chesi Choodu (1952), were also successful, causing him to become the industry's "top star" according to Ashish Rajadhyaksha and Paul Willemen in the book Encyclopedia of Indian Cinema. He also took his first steps into film production by forming the National Art Theatre production studio in 1953.
Sivalenka Sambhu Prasad was a journalist and Indian National Congress politician, who took over the Daily News Paper Andhra Patrika, Andhra Sachitra Vara Patrika and Bharathi which were published from Chennai City which was the capital of Composite State of Madras from his father-in-law Kasinadhuni Nageswara Rao, the founder of Andhra Patrika group of publications in 1903, inventor of "Amrutanjan", a pain balm with natural ingredients, in 1893 and a freedom-fighter. After taking over he led the group of publications from 1938 to 1972. Rao also bequeathed all properties and Amrutanjan business to Sambhu Prasad, which he ran along with publications. During Sambhu Prasad's lifetime there were many important events in India, including the Second World War, the Independence of India, and much of the life, and the death, of Mahatma Gandhi. He was called "Ayyavaru" by his employees. The centenary of his birth was celebrated in 2011 by a function was attended by dignitaries and journalists, including Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Konijeti Rosaiah.
Kalyanam Raghuramaiah (1901–1975), popularly known as Eelapata Raghuramaiah, was an Indian actor, and thespian known for his works in Telugu cinema, and Telugu theatre. A recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, and the Padmashri, He was known for the roles of Krishna or Dushyantha, Bhavanisankar, Narada etc. He performed those roles for about 60 years. He indulged in elaborate raga alapana, based on different ragas while rendering padyams.
Konda Venkatappayya or Konda Venkatappaiah B.L. (1866–1948) was a noted Indian lawyer, freedom fighter, and politician from what is now Andhra Pradesh. He was one of the founders and the first editor of Krishna Patrika, a leading weekly Telugu magazine during the early 20th century.
Gadicherla Harisarvottama Rao was a freedom fighter from Andhra during the Indian independence movement. He was inspired by the ideologies of Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Bipin Chandra Pal and joined the freedom movement at a very young age. He is the person who named the region as Rayalaseema when everybody taunted the region as Ceded because Nizam ceded the region to the British.
