Myfanwy Bekker

Myfanwy Bekker-Balajadia is a South African artist and art teacher. Her work is shown in galleries and showrooms throughout the world.^[1] She is collected by private and corporate entities, and continues to produce, both for private commissions and retail galleries. She was born into a large and eccentric South African family where they explored individual expression each evening.^[1] She attended Pretoria High School for Girls and Pretoria Technikon where she received a diploma in fine arts with a major in painting.^[2] At Pretoria Technikon, she had associations with Richard Adams, Walter Battis, Esias Bosch, Sammy Lieberman and Gunter van der Reis.^[2]

She began ceramic technology course after college, and taught ceramics. She also worked in P.A.C.T. the South African state theater as a painter.^[1] She was studio manager for Richard Adams School of Ceramics in South Africa and taught life drawing at the University of Pretoria at the Architectural School

She studied and was influenced by art through traveling. She has worked under Vladimir Tarachenhof in the Seychelles. She moved to the U.S in 1976 and has lived and taught in New Mexico, Texas and California.^[2] She has gained widespread recognition both in Africa and the United States.^[2] She continues to inspire and teach artists in South Africa.^[3] She has shown in galleries throughout the US and is represented in many corporate and private collections.^[2] Since 1993 Bekker has concentrated on commissions, designing spaces and charitable shows.^[2] she continues to solo, group exhibits and published work.

She is married to Kenji Balajadia.

He was educated at the Ukrainian State Art School in Kiev and went on to graduate in 1990 from the Art Institute of Tallinn in Estonia with Bachelor of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees in ceramic art. He has since exhibited widely in both solo and group exhibitions, received numerous awards, and widely collected by museums and private collectors.

Philippa Hobbs is a published South African art historian, an artist and an art collector. She was born in 1955 and matriculated at St Andrew's School in 1972. She studied art at the Johannesburg College of Art before finishing a post-graduate printmaking course at the University of the Arts (Philadelphia). She then furthered her studies through University of South Africa (UNISA) and the Technikon Witwatersrand. Hobbs was a senior professor of history of art at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg from 1988 to 1993. She has been noted for her contribution to the practice of art, art education, research and, most recently, community development through art. Hobbs currently works as MTN art collection curator and arts and culture portfolio senior manager.

Wayne Barker, South African visual artist. Barker is based in Johannesburg. He rose to prominence in the late 80s, at the height of political unrest under the Apartheid regime. Myfanwy MacLeod is a Canadian artist who lives, and works, in Vancouver, British Columbia. She has exhibited work in Canada, the United States of America, and Europe. MacLeod received an award from La Fondation André Piolat (1995), and a VIVA award from the Doris and Jack Shadbolt Foundation (1999). She has work in public, and private collections, including at the National Art Gallery of Canada, and the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Melissa Stern is an American artist and journalist. Her drawing and sculpture have been exhibited in museums, galleries, private and corporate collections throughout the world. Her art reviews and cultural commentary have been featured in Hyperallergic, the Brooklyn-based digital arts publication. She serves as Art Editor for Posit, a journal of literature and art.

Myfanwy Kitchin (1917–2002) was a British artist known for her paintings and, later in her career, ceramic sculptures.
