Md Nazrul Islam Khan, also known as N I Khan, is a former education secretary of Bangladesh. [1] He is currently the chairman and independent director of International Leasing and Financial Services Limited. He is also former PS-1 to Sheikh Hasina, both when she was the leader of the opposition in parliament and in the Prime Minister's Office. [2]

Career

Khan was the director general of the Directorate of Primary Education in 2008. [3]

In September 2011, Khan was appointed the secretary of the Ministry of Education. [3] During his tenure he introduced online college admission; redesigned education institution infrastracture well adapted in rainy environments and aerial aesthetics; elected student cabinet in secondary educational institutions. Before that, Khan was the secretary of the Information and Communication Technology Division at the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology. [3] He was also the private secretary to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and national project director of the Access to information in Bangladesh program of the Prime Minister's Office. [3]

Khan was appointed the curator of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in March 2016. [4]

Khan is the chairman of the National Wages and Productivity Commission; he was appointed chairman in 2016. [5] [6]

In November 2020, Khan was appointed the acting chairperson of Palli Sanchay Bank. [7]

Khan was appointed the chairman of International Leasing and Financial Services Limited by Company Bench of High Court. [8] In January 2021, another bench of the High Court Division issued an order banning his travel abroad following a petition filled by individuals who accused him of being involved with Prashanta Kumar Halder. [8] The pettitioners had been defrauded by People's Leasing and Financial Services and Prashanta Kumar Halder. [8] The petitioner included Nashid Kamal, daughter of the former chief justice of Bangladesh, Mustafa Kamal. [8] The Appellate Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court halted the order since he was never connected with peoples leasing and appointed as chairman of international leasing by Company Bench of High Court. [8]

Syed Nazrul Islam was a Bangladeshi politician and a senior leader of the Awami League. During the Bangladesh Liberation War, he was declared as the Vice President of Bangladesh by the Provisional Government. He served as the Acting President in the absence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Khondaker Mostaq Ahmad was a Bangladeshi politician. He was the Minister of Commerce in the third Mujib Rahman ministry under Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and assumed the presidency of Bangladesh after the Assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, 1975. He praised the assassins as "sons of the sun" and put cabinet ministers loyal to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in jail. He was himself deposed by another coup, less than three months later on November 3, 1975.

Akbar Ali Khan was a Bangladeshi economist and educationist who served as a bureaucrat until 2001. He was a sub-divisional officer of Habiganj during the Bangladesh Liberation War when he decided to join the war. Later he served as an official of the Mujibnagar Government. After independence, he rejoined the civil service and reached the highest post of Cabinet Secretary. In the meanwhile, he also worked as a university teacher. Towards the end of 2006, he became one of the advisers of the Caretaker Government led by President Iajuddin Ahmed. He resigned along with three other advisers, namely, Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury, C M Shafi Sami and Sultana Kamal on the grounds of dissatisfaction with President Dr. Iajuddin Ahmed caretaker government. According to them, there was no scope to contribute in the caretaker government to create a congenial atmosphere for holding a free and fair election. In October 2007, the Government of Bangladesh constituted a Regulatory Reforms Commission (RRC) with him as the chair.

Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, also known as Bangabandhu Bhaban or Dhanmondi 32, located in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Bangladesh, was the personal residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was also called Bangabandhu, the founder and president of Bangladesh. Mujib was assassinated with most members of his family in this residence. The museum was listed as a national heritage site in 2009 by RAJUK and was largely damaged in 2024.

The Dainik Bangla is a Bengali-language daily newspaper in Bangladesh. The newspaper was closed in 1997 and was later revived on 4 September 2022 by an editorial panel led by Nazrul Islam Mazumder and Chowdhury Nafeez Sharafat.

Mohammad Nazrul Islam, better known as Asif Nazrul, is a Bangladeshi writer, novelist, columnist, political commentator, and a professor of law at the University of Dhaka. He has been serving as an adviser of the interim government of Bangladesh since 8 August 2024 and as Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

Abidur Reza Khan was a Bangladesh Awami League politician. In 1946, while he was attending Rajendra College, where he met Bangabandhu and begun his student politics. He was the first Faridpur District Muslim/student League President. 1952, he played a major role during the Vasha Andolon. In 1964, Bangabandhu gave him the responsibility to organize the lawyers at the Supreme Court. In 1966, during struggle against Pakistan, he assisted Bangabandhu with the Six Points Programme of the Awami League. In 1968 during the Agartala Conspiracy Case, Abidur Reza Khan was one of the first lawyer who did not care for his life and represented Bangabandhu. He was elected MNA 1970. On 20 April 1971, General Tikka Khan ordered Abidur Reza Khan along with Nazrul Islam, Tazzuddin Ahmad, Abdul Mannan, and Tofael Ahmed to surrender for treason.

Mujib: The Making of a Nation is a 2023 epic biographical film based on the life of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father and first president of Bangladesh who is popularly known as Bangabandhu. A co-production between Bangladesh and India, the film was directed by Shyam Benegal and stars Arifin Shuvoo in the titular role.

Syed Shafayetul Islam is a retired major general of the Bangladesh Army and a politician. He served as Military Secretary to Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, from 1996 to March 2000.
