The Railinfratrust Company (RIT) is the owner of the rail infrastructure in the Netherlands. ProRail B.V. is the part of RIT that takes care of maintenance and extension of the national railway network infrastructure, of allocating rail capacity, and of traffic control. NS Railinfratrust is a government agency but is not the same company as Nederlandse Spoorwegen. NS Railinfratrust consists of the following infrastructure management organisations: Railinfrabeheer (Rail Infrastructure Management, RIB); Railned (railway capacity allocation) (planning more than 52 hours before the day of the train service); Railverkeersleiding (Traffic Control) (planning from 52 hours before the day of the train service)
NS Railinfratrust Ltd was founded as a result of the separation of track and trains in 1995. It is the holding company of the three organisations NS Railinfrabeheer (RIB), Railned and NS Verkeersleiding (NSVL). These three NS-organisations work for the Ministry of Traffic and Water. They were part of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen organisation but were separated on 1 July 2002. Since 1 January 2003 NS Railinfratrust has used the trading name of ProRail.
On 1 January 2003 the three railinfratrust companies (NS Railinfrabeheer Ltd, Railverkeersleiding Ltd and Railned Ltd) merged to form ProRail Ltd. The railway security function of Railned was transferred to the Inspection Service of the Ministry of Traffic and Water. ProRail Ltd is now responsible for capacity management, traffic control, Infrastructure management, Infrastructure projects, track development and ICT services.

The HSL-Zuid, is a 125 kilometre-long Dutch high-speed rail line running between the Amsterdam metropolitan area and the Belgian border, with a branch to Breda, North Brabant. Together with the Belgian HSL 4 it forms the Schiphol–Antwerp high-speed railway. Originally scheduled to be in service by 2007, the first public operations began on 7 September 2009, after a ceremony on 6 September.
The NS Class 6400 is a type of Bo-Bo diesel-electric freight locomotive. 120 were built by MaK and ABB between 1988 and 1994 for Nederlandse Spoorwegen.
Amsterdam Centraal station is the largest railway station in Amsterdam, North Holland, the Netherlands. A major international railway hub, it is used by 192,000 passengers a day, making it the second busiest railway station in the country after Utrecht Centraal and the most visited Rijksmonument of the Netherlands.
Rail transport in the Netherlands uses a dense railway network which connects nearly all major towns and cities. There are as many train stations as there are municipalities in the Netherlands. The network totals 3,223 route km (2,003 mi) on 6,830 kilometres (4,240 mi) of track; a line may run both ways, or two lines may run on major routes. Three-quarters of the lines have been electrified.
Den Haag Laan van NOI railway station is a railway station in the Netherlands, on the border between The Hague and the town of Voorburg. It is served by the Nederlandse Spoorwegen and by the RandstadRail light-rail network. The station is named after the road on which it is located, Laan van Nieuw Oost-Indië, which literally translates as New East Indies Avenue, but probably refers to a former inn called Nieuw Oosteinde.
Diemen is the main railway station of the municipality of Diemen, Netherlands. It is located on the Amsterdam–Zutphen railway between Amsterdam Science Park and Weesp. The station was first opened in 1882 and then closed in 1929. It was reopened at the same location in 1974. The station building was completed in 1978. The train services are operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen. Among the direct destinations are Almere, Amersfoort, Amsterdam Centraal, Hilversum, Lelystad, and Zwolle. There are connections to two bus services operated by GVB.
The Weesp–Lelystad railway, also known as Flevolijn, is a railway in the Netherlands operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen and owned by ProRail. The line runs from Weesp, North Holland to Lelystad, capital of the neighbouring province of Flevoland. It currently has seven stations, these are : Almere Poort, Almere Muziekwijk, Almere Centrum, Almere Parkwijk, Almere Buiten, Almere Oostvaarders and Lelystad Centrum. Almere Strand was closed in 2012 and Lelystad Zuid is due to open before 2025.
Zwolle is the main railway station of Zwolle in Overijssel, Netherlands. The station opened on 6 June 1864 and is on the Utrecht–Kampen railway, also known as the Centraalspoorweg, the Zwolle–Almelo railway, the Arnhem–Leeuwarden railway, the Zwolle–Stadskanaal railway and the Lelystad–Zwolle railway, also known as the Hanzelijn.

Nijmegen Goffert is a railway station located in the south west of Nijmegen, Netherlands. The station opened on 14 December 2014 and is located on the Tilburg–Nijmegen railway. The train services are operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen.
The Oss railway accident happened on 20 September 2018 when a passenger train collided with a Stint cart on a level crossing at Oss, North Brabant, Netherlands. Four children on the cart were killed, and two were seriously injured. Stint carts were subsequently banned from use on public roads in the Netherlands. An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
