Nadine S. Bezuk is an American mathematics educator, and a professor emerita of teacher education at San Diego State University, [1] where she is a former associate dean and former Qualcomm Professor of Teacher Education, [2] the former director of the San Diego State University School of Teacher Education, [3] and the former president and executive director of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators.

Education and career

Bezuk is originally from Pittsburgh. [3] She has a bachelor's degree in child development and early childhood education from the University of Pittsburgh, and a master's degree and Ph.D. in mathematics education from the University of Minnesota. [4]

She worked as a K-12 mathematics teacher from 1981 through 1984, and joined the San Diego State University faculty in 1987. [4]

She was president of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators from 1997 to 1999, and executive director from 2001 to 2014, [4] and has also served as a director of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. [3]

Bezuk coauthored the book Learning Mathematics In Elementary And Middle School: A Learner-Centered Approach (with Yvonne Pothier, W. George Cathcart, and James H. Vance, Pearson, 2003; 6th ed., 2015).

History of San Diego State University

The history of San Diego State University began in the late 19th century with the establishment of a normal school in San Diego, California. Founded on March 13, 1897, the school opened on November 1, 1898 with a class of 135 students. By 1921, the school had become San Diego State Teachers College, allowing it to grant certificates and degrees. Due to the increased student enrollment, the college was relocated to its current location at the east side of Mission Valley, with classes beginning in February 1931. The government works programs during the Great Depression assisted in construction of numerous buildings on the new campus.

The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) is an organization of American music educators dedicated to advancing and preserving music education as part of the core curriculum of schools in the United States. Founded in 1907 as the Music Supervisors National Conference (MSNC), the organization was known from 1934 to 1998 as the Music Educators National Conference. From 1998 to 2011 it was known as "MENC: The National Association for Music Education." On September 1, 2011, the organization changed its acronym from MENC to NAfME. Halil Güven Turkish academic (born 1956)

Halil Guven is a Cypriot-born professor, currently serving as the Dean of San Diego State University - Georgia. He was a Vice Dean of SDSU Georgia for four years before then and was one of the coordinators of the project at the time of its conception. Dr. Güven served as a Rector at three different universities in Turkey and in Cyprus. He served as the rector of Istanbul Bilgi University appointed in the academic year of 2009–2010, Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), North Cyprus in 2004–2007, and Bahçeşehir University, Istanbul, Turkey in 1999–2003. He received his B.S. degree from Boğaziçi University, his M.S. degree from Mississippi State University on Fulbright Scholarship (1981), and his Ph.D. degree from University of Houston, in Mechanical Engineering(1983). Alongside his 20+ articles in energy systems in peer-reviewed journals, Güven has edited books and published book chapters on Globalization, Leadership, Clash of civilizations and Education. Prof. Güven took part in Harvard Graduate School of Education's “Harvard Seminar for New University Presidents” in 2000, and speaks Turkish, English, and moderate Spanish and Greek.

Tam OShaughnessy American educator, children’s science writer, former professional tennis player

Tam Elizabeth O'Shaughnessy is an American children's science writer and former professional tennis player who co-founded the science education company Sally Ride Science together with her partner, astronaut Sally Ride, the first American woman in space. The company was relaunched as a nonprofit entity, Sally Ride Science at UC San Diego, on October 1, 2015. O'Shaughnessy serves as executive director.
