Nagi Ganapathy Naganathan is the current president of the Oregon Institute of Technology and the former dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Toledo. [1]
Naganathan received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Regional Engineering College,Tiruchirappalli (now known as National Institute of Technology,Tiruchirappalli),master's degree in mechanical and industrial engineering from Clarkson University and his doctorate of philosophy degree in mechanical engineering from Oklahoma State University. Born in Madras,India;he was named interim president of the University of Toledo serving since July 1,2014. [2] In November 2016,Naganathan was selected as president of the Oregon Institute of Technology. [3] [4] National Institute of Technology,Tiruchirappalli awarded him the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2007. [5]
In 2021,faculty at Oregon Institute of Technology held a vote of no confidence in Naganathan,citing a disregard of university policy,shared governance,and fiscal management. [6] The vote passed with approval from roughly 92% of faculty. [7]

The 2021 Oregon Tech strike was a labor strike involving faculty members from the Oregon Institute of Technology. The strike was organized by the Oregon Tech - American Association of University Professors (OT-AAUP),a local union representing the faculty members that had been formed in 2018 and was recognized by the university in 2019. Following its recognition,the union and university entered into contract negotiations for the faculty members' first labor contract. However,negotiations proceeded slowly,and by early 2021,an agreement had not been reached. On March 17,both sides presented their final offers and the following month,union members voted to authorize strike action. On April 26,following a round of last-minute negotiations,the union officially commenced strike action.
