The economy of Namibia has a modern market sector, which produces most of the country's wealth, and a traditional subsistence sector. Although the majority of the population engages in subsistence agriculture and herding, Namibia has more than 200,000 skilled workers and a considerable number of well-trained professionals and managerials.

German Namibians are a community of people descended from ethnic German colonists who settled in present-day Namibia. In 1883, the German trader Adolf Lüderitz bought what would become the southern coast of Namibia from Josef Frederiks II, a chief of the local Oorlam people, and founded the city of Lüderitz. The German government, eager to gain overseas possessions, annexed the territory soon after, proclaiming it German South West Africa. Small numbers of Germans subsequently immigrated there, many coming as soldiers, traders, diamond miners, or colonial officials. In 1915, during the course of World War I, Germany lost its colonial possessions, including South West Africa ; after the war, the former German colony was administered as a South African mandate. The German settlers were allowed to remain and, until independence in 1990, German remained an official language of the territory alongside Afrikaans and English.
Asser Kuveri Kapere is a Namibian politician. He is a member of SWAPO and has been the Chairman of the National Council of Namibia since December 2004.
Petrus Iilonga was a Namibian politician as well as a trade union leader and political prisoner in Robben Island. A member of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO), Iilonga served as Deputy Minister in various Ministries and was a member of the party's Central Committee.
Nangolo Mbumba is a Namibian politician who serves as the current Vice President of Namibia. A member of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO), Mbumba has headed a number of Namibian ministries: Agriculture, Water and Rural Development (1993-1996), Finance (1996-2003), Information and Broadcasting (2003-2005) Education (2005–2010), and Safety and Security (2010-2012). In 2012 he became the Secretary-General of SWAPO serving until 2017.
White Namibians are people of European birth or descent living in Namibia. The majority of White Namibians are Afrikaners, with many of the White minority being German Namibians. Many are also Portuguese or English immigrants. Current estimates of the White Namibian population run between 75,000 and 100,000. This discrepancy in data is because the Namibian government no longer collects data based on race.

An ethnic Herero, Mbuende has been a high-level member of the ruling SWAPO Party of Namibia since 1972, and served among others as information officer in Lusaka, Zambia.
Alpheus ǀGou-ǃna ǃNaruseb is a Namibian politician who has served in the Cabinet of Namibia as Minister of Works and Transport since 2015. A member of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO), !Naruseb has served in the Cabinet since 1997 and the National Assembly since 1995.
Lempy Lucas, also: Lukas, is a Namibian politician. A member of the National Assembly from 2000 until 2015, Lucas is a member of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO). She has held a number of Deputy Minister positions in Namibia's government, she currently is Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Water and Forestry. She had previously been a SWAPO Party Youth League activist.
Bernhardt Esau, also Bernhard or Bernard, is a Namibian politician. A member of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO), Esau has been a member of the National Assembly since being nominated by President Sam Nujoma and subsequently elected in the 1994 Namibian general election.
John Mutorwa is a Namibian politician and current minister of Agriculture. A member of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO), Mutorwa has served in the National Assembly of Namibia as well as the cabinet since 1992. Mutorwa was the Minister of Youth, National Services, Sport and Culture from 2005 to 2010; he has served as Minister of Agriculture since 2010.

Land reform is an important political and economic topic in Namibia. It consists of two different strategies: resettlement, and transfer of commercially viable agricultural land. Resettlement is aimed at improving the lives of displaced or dispossessed previously disadvantaged Namibians. Farms obtained by government for resettlement purposes are usually split into several sections, and dozens of families are being resettled on what had previously been one farm. Transfer of commercial agricultural land is not directly conducted by government. Would-be farmers with a previously disadvantaged background obtain farms privately or through affirmative action loans. In both cases, the "Willing buyer, willing seller" principle applies.
Stefanus "Steve" Orateng Mogotsi is a Namibian politician and former featherweight boxer. A member of SWAPO, Mogotsi won a seat in the Regional Council of Omaheke Region in 2004. He was subsequently selected to the 3rd National Council of Namibia. The seat, representing Kalahari Constituency, had been held by the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance since 1992.
Anton von Wietersheim is a Namibian politician. Wietersheim was a member of the Constituent Assembly of Namibia from 1989 to 1990 and was elected to the National Assembly as a SWAPO candidate in 1990. He served as Minister of Agriculture before resigning in 1993.
Clara Gasebewe Bohitile is a Namibian businesswoman and former politician.
Viola von Cramon-Taubadel, often officially referred as simply Viola von Cramon is a German politician of Alliance '90/The Greens who has been a member of the European Parliament since 2019. She previously represented Lower Saxony in the Bundestag, the German federal parliament, from 2009 to 2013.
