Nancy O'Malley was the district attorney for Alameda County,California. [1] [2] [3]
O'Malley was appointed as DA for Alameda County in 2009 by the board of supervisors when her predecessor retired. [4] She ran unopposed in 2010 and 2014. [4]
In November 2017,O'Malley investigated a high-profile shooting of a pregnant teenager by Fremont police officers. While investigating the case,she accepted a $10,000 contribution from the Fremont police union,which was the largest single contribution that she had at that point received from a police union. One of the police officers who shot the teenager was the president of the Fremont police union. She later cleared the Fremont police officers,including the union president,of any wrongdoing in the shooting. [4] [5] [6]
On June 13,2019,just after the Toronto Raptors clinched the NBA title over the Golden State Warriors,Raptors President Masai Ujiri was allegedly involved in an altercation with an Alameda County sheriff's deputy. The sheriff's office was expected to file reports with the district attorney's office. If filed,O'Malley would decide whether to bring charges against Ujiri. [7] The investigation ended on September 21. Following a private meeting on October 21,2019,with Ujiri,his attorneys and Assistant District Attorney Terry Wiley,which was held at the sheriff's department,Assistant District Attorney Teresa Drenick wrote in an email to The Toronto Star that the district attorney's office would not be "taking any further action". In 2018,O'Malley faced a challenge from a progressive candidate,Oakland civil rights attorney Pamela Price,running on policy of police accountability. [4] The race was notable for the large sums of money being spent. [4] Law enforcement unions spent large sums on O'Malley's campaign and in opposition to Price. [4]
O'Malley announced she would not seek a fourth term of office and would complete her term ending in the beginning of 2023. [9]

The Hayward Hall of Justice is an Alameda County Superior Court building,located in Hayward,California. It is located in a complex of buildings which includes the Hayward Police Department,Hayward Unified School District offices,and the Hayward jail. On June 16,2015,shortly after midnight,five Irish J-1 visa students and one Irish-American died and seven others were injured after a balcony on which they were standing collapsed. The group was celebrating a 21st birthday party in Berkeley,California. The balcony was on the 5th floor of an apartment building at 2020 Kittredge Street in Berkeley,then called Library Gardens. The district attorney of Alameda County launched a criminal probe into the incident. In January 2022,one of the injured died from a stroke related to the injuries.

The two teams didn't meet in the playoffs until 2007,where the Nets defeated the Raptors,4–2. They then met again in 2014,where the Nets beat the Raptors again,but this time in seven games. Six years later,the two teams met again in the playoffs,but this time,the Raptors swept the Nets in four games. The Raptors have a 69–56 advantage against the Nets,and have the longest winning streak,which is 12 games from January 6,2016 to March 23,2018.
The Alameda County,California Women's Hall of Fame has existed since 1993. It is overseen by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors,and members of the "Commission on the Status of Women". Nomination categories include athletes,community builders,youth,environmentalists,philanthropy. The Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore has produced a number of inductees in the science and engineering fields. Many of the inductees listed here are in law enforcement,or legal assistance careers. Their website claims in excess of 250 inductees. The list includes community builders from a wide spectrum of cultural backgrounds. Ceremonies to announce the latest class of inductees usually occurs in the spring of every year.
Sarah Zeinab Chan is a South Sudanese former professional basketball player and lead scout in Africa for the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Toronto Raptors,who grew up as a refugee in Kenya. She is the first woman to scout for an NBA team in Africa. She is also the founder of Home At Home/Apediet Foundation,a non-governmental organization that combats child marriage and advocates sports and education for girls. In 2022,Chan was named to the BBC 100 Women list.
Pamela Price is an American lawyer and,since January 2023,the District Attorney for Alameda County,California. She is the first African-American woman to ever serve as Alameda County's DA. She supports progressive legislative reforms and ran on police accountability and rehabilitation. She is facing a recall effort.
