The Nantucket Film Festival is a film festival founded in 1996 which focuses on screenwriting. Board members include Donick Cary, Nancy Dubac, Chris Matthews, Kathleen Matthews, Ben Stiller, and Tom Scott.

History

The Nantucket Film Festival was founded in 1996 by siblings Jill and Jonathan Burkhart, who grew up on the island. [1] In 1997, Mystelle Brabbée joined them and now serves as executive director. [2]

The Nantucket Film Festival Screenwriters Tribute

The NFF Screenwriters Tribute is a celebration of a noted screenwriter. This event is hosted by Brian Williams, NFF Board member and NBC News anchor. [3]

Late Night Storytelling

In this event Festival attendees tell a five-minute story, based on a chosen theme. Writers, actors, filmmakers or Nantucketers, tell their tales without the benefit of notes or scripts. [4]

The All-Star Comedy Roundtable

This event hosted by Ben Stiller is a moderated conversation event featuring comedians.

Nantucket Film Festival Awards

The NFF Official Juries announced in May and the NFF Official Awards are presented to recipients on the last day of the festival in June. The NFF Showtime Tony Cox Screenplay competitions award prizes to Feature Screenplay, Short Screenplay, and TV Pilots. [5]

The Screenwriters Colony

The Screenwriters Colony is a month long, all-expenses-paid event on the island of Nantucket. Writers are invited to work on their screenplay projects with guidance from more experienced people. Participating writers live together at Almanack Farm, on the edge of Nantucket's cranberry bog conservation land. [6]

Year-round

The Festival's parent organization, the Nantucket Film Foundation, features off-season screening with the Nantucket Dreamland Foundation including NFF Now and the Summer Film Screenings. The NFF Teen View program is a filmmaking workshop series and intensive course free to Nantucket teenagers. [7]

Ivy Film Festival

Ivy Film Festival (IFF) is the world's largest student-run film festival, hosted annually on the campus of Brown University. The Festival was started in 2001 by then-Brown juniors David Peck and Justin Slosky in collaboration with students of the other seven Ivy League schools including vice chairman Doug Imbruce from Columbia University. The founders' goal was to create a venue to showcase and honor the work of talented student filmmakers. Hamptons International Film Festival

The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) is an international film festival founded in 1992, by Joyce Robinson. The festival has since taken place every year in East Hampton, New York. It is usually an annual five-day event in mid-October and is held in theatre venues located in the Long Island area of New York, United States. Approximately 18,000 visitors attend each festival and close to a hundred films are featured each year, including an annual representation of at least twenty countries and an awards package worth over $200,000. HIFF was founded as a celebration of independent film in a variety of forms, and to provide a forum for independent filmmakers with differing global perspectives. The festival places a particular emphasis upon new filmmakers with a diversity of ideas, as a means to not only provide public exposure for festival content and its creators, but to also inspire and enlighten audiences. The festival has presented films that have subsequently been considered highly successful productions; the 2008 event featured eventual winners of the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, and Independent Spirit Award "Best Picture" accolades, and the 2011 season consisted of 24 Academy Award nominations.

63rd Venice International Film Festival

The 63rd annual Venice International Film Festival, held in Venice, Italy, was opened on 30 August 2006 with Brian De Palma's The Black Dahlia and was closed on 9 September 2006. Host of the event was Italian actress Isabella Ferrari. During the festival, retrospectives were held on the one hundredth anniversary of the births of three major Italian directors: Roberto Rossellini, Mario Soldati and Luchino Visconti. Samuel Bernstein

Samuel Garza Bernstein is an American screenwriter, playwright, director and author who grew up all over the world, living in Cairo, Honolulu, Austin, Phoenix, Albuquerque, New York City, Los Angeles, and Ft. Collins, Colorado, while his family also traveled through Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean. He is co-founder of Babyhead Productions with husband Ronald Shore. The couple have been together since 1994, and were married in a Jewish ceremony in 1996, then in Vancouver, Canada in 2003 when it became legal for same sex couples to marry, and then again in 2013 in West Hollywood, California, after the Supreme Court struck down Proposition 8. 74th Venice International Film Festival Film festival

The 74th annual Venice International Film Festival was held from 30 August to 9 September 2017. The jury president was announced as the actress Annette Bening on 5 July 2017. Downsizing, directed by Alexander Payne, was selected to open the festival. The Golden Lion, the highest prize given by the festival, was awarded to The Shape of Water, directed by Guillermo del Toro.

DaVinci International Film Festival

The DaVinci International Film Festival(DIFF) is held annually in Los Angeles, California and is produced by the non-profit DaVinci Film Foundation Inc. The festival governs four key programs including their screenwriting competition series STORYLINE, presented by Final Draft, the DaVinci Film Institute, which honors beurgeoning filmmakers with screenings and scholarships held at The Kennedy Center in Washington DC, sponsored by Coca-Cola, and documentaries at DIFFdocs.
