The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is an Indian regional political party with significant influence in the state of Odisha. It was founded by the former minister of mines and minerals of the Republic of India Naveen Patnaik on 26 December 1997 as a breakaway faction from the Janata Dal. The BJD is led by its founder as president of the party. The headquarters of the party is located in Forest Park,Bhubaneswar.
Naveen Patnaik is an Indian politician who served as the 14th Chief Minister of Odisha from 5 March 2000 to 12 June 2024. His 24-year reign is the second longest for a chief minister of any Indian state,after Pawan Kumar Chamling of Sikkim. He is the first president of the Biju Janata Dal since 1997. He served as the Union Minister of Steel and Mines from 1998 to 2000 and a member of the Lok Sabha from Aska from 1997 to 2000.
Malkangiri,historically known as Malikamardhangiri,is a town and municipality in Malkangiri district in the Indian state of Odisha. It is the headquarter of the Malkangiri district. Malkangiri has been the new home of the East Bengali refugees from erstwhile East Pakistan,who have been rehabilitated since 1965 under the Dandakaranya Project. Some Sri Lankan Tamil refugees were also rehabilitated in the town,following the armed struggle of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the early 1990s,although most of them have now returned to their country. Currently,it is one of the most naxalite-affected areas of the state,and is a part of the Red Corridor.

Arabinda Dhali is an Indian politician and member of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP). Dhali is a sixth-term member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly and represented the Malkangiri from 1992 to 2000 and the Jayadev constituency from 2009 to 2014. Later,he joined Biju Janata Dal. and won as an MLA from Jayadev Assembly constituency in 2019 Odisha Legislative Assembly election. He later quit BJD and joined Bharatiya Janata Party on 3 March 2024. Mr. Dhali will fight 2024 Odisha Legislative Assembly election from BJP for the Jayadev assembly segment in Khurda district.
Malkangiri Airport is a domestic airport serving the city of Malkangiri in the state of Odisha,India. It is owned by the Government of Odisha,and is operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). It is located at Nilimari,8 km (5.0 mi) south-east from the city centre. The airport has been developed as a regional airport under the government's UDAN Scheme.
