Assam is a state in northeastern India, south of the eastern Himalayas along the Brahmaputra and Barak River valleys. Assam covers an area of 78,438 km2 (30,285 sq mi). He was also the member of the Asom Gana Parishad from 2001 to 2011.
Dihing or Burhi Dihing is a large tributary, about 380 kilometres (240 mi) long, of the Brahmaputra River in Upper Assam in northeastern India. The river originates at 2,375 metres (7,792 ft) above sea level in the Eastern Himalayas in Arunachal Pradesh and flows through Tinsukia (Tinicukeeya) and Dibrugarh Districts in Assam to its confluence with the Brahmaputra at Dihingmukh. Its watershed covers about 6,000 square kilometres (2,300 sq mi). The Dihing has created number of oxbow lakes in the area.

Ranee Narah is an Indian politician from Assam and a member of the Indian National Congress. She represented Assam as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from 2016 to 2022. She also represented Lakhimpur in the Lok Sabha from 1998 to 2004, and again from 2009 to 2014. Narah served as the Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs in the Government of India from 2012 to 2014. Her husband, Bharat Narah, is also a member of the Indian National Congress, and the MLA of Naoboicha.

Himanta Biswa Sarma is an Indian politician and lawyer serving as the 15th and current Chief Minister of Assam since 2021. A former member of the Indian National Congress, Sarma joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on 23 August 2015. He is a five time Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from Jalukbari, having been elected since 2001. He also served as Minister in the Government of Assam from 2016 to 2021, 2011 to 2014, 2006 to 2011, 2002 to 2004 and from 2004 to 2006. The BJP appointed him the convener (leader) of the North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) since 2016. Sports Activities - Sarma was also the President of the Badminton Association of India since 2017, President of Assam Cricket Association in 2016 and vice president from 2002 to 2016. Sarma studied at Cotton College and later obtained a bachelor of laws from Government Law College in Guwahati. He later became a solicitor and practised law at Gauhati High Court before his entry to politics. Himanta has also worked in a movie called "Koka Deuta Hati Aru Nati".

Administratively Tingkhong is located within Dibrugarh district and is today an important tea cultivation and oil exploration area of Assam. Tingkhong is approximately 80 km from Dibrugarh by road towards south-east and approximately 70 km from Tinsukia towards south. It was established in 2017 by the provisions of an Act from the Assam Legislative Assembly which merged Cotton College State University and Cotton College.
