Natalie Cressman is an American jazz trombonist and vocalist.
Cressman was born in San Francisco to jazz musicians Sandy and Jeff Cressman. When her father was part of Carlos Santana's band, she danced onstage with him at Madison Square Garden. [1] In her early teens she began performing with Afro Cuban, Brazilian, and jazz bands. Cressman graduated from San Francisco's Ruth Asawa School of the Arts. [2] At the age of eighteen she moved to New York City to attend the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied with Luis Bonilla, Garry Dial, Laurie Frink, and Wycliffe Gordon. She joined a band led by Trey Anastasio. [3] She performed with Nicholas Payton's Television Symphony Orchestra and Peter Apfelbaum's New York Hieroglyphics Ensemble. [3] In 2012 she played the Apollo Theater as a soloist in Wycliffe Gordon's Jazz a la Carte. [3] She founded the band Secret Garden. [3] She has appeared with the bands Dumpstaphunk and Lettuce and has been an artist at large at Bear Creek Music Festival. [4]

Other than those playing in all-female bands, she was the first woman trombonist to play in big bands during the 1940s and 1960s, but as her career progressed she became better known as an arranger, particularly in partnership with pianist Randy Weston. Furthur was an American rock band founded in 2009 by former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Phil Lesh. The original lineup also included John Kadlecik of Dark Star Orchestra on lead guitar, RatDog's Jeff Chimenti on keyboards and Jay Lane on percussion, and Joe Russo of the Benevento/Russo Duo on drums. Named after the famous touring bus used by Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters in the 1960s, Furthur was an improvisational jam band that performed music primarily from the extensive Grateful Dead songbook, as well as their own original music and that of several other well-known artists. In addition to the original members, the band's lineup included backup vocalists Sunshine Becker of the a cappella ensemble SoVoSó and Jeff Pehrson of the folk rock bands Box Set and the Fall Risk.

Similarly, despite her first name, Sunshine, she is not to be confused with Sunshine Kesey, daughter of Ken Kesey and Carolyn Adams, Jerry Garcia's second wife.

Brianna Thomas is an American jazz singer, vocalist, composer, songwriter, band leader, and percussionist. She was born and raised in Peoria, Illinois, United States. She made her singing debut at the age of six. She is the daughter of drummer and vocalist Charlie Thomas. She is known as being one of the best young straight ahead young jazz singers, says music critic and author Will Friedwald. She is known to bring together various forms of American music from bluegrass to jazz in to an original hybrid of jazz/funk/rock and soul. Her voice is said to be strong and her range huge. She incorporates rare music in her repertoire of early female blues and jazz pioneers such as Bessie Smith, Victoria Spivey, Ma Rainey, Ethel Waters, Mamie Smith, and Ida Cox.
