Nathan are a Canadian alternative country band based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The band released four albums and won several awards, including a 2008 Juno Award.

History

Nathan was formed in 2001. Band members were singer/songwriter Keri McTighe (later Keri Latimer) and bassist Devin Latimer, [1] along with Shelley Marshal and Damon Mitchell. [2] [3] After their debut independent album Stranger (Released 2001) won a Prairie Music Award for Outstanding Independent Album, the band signed to Nettwerk Records. In 2004 they released their second album, Jimson Weed , [4] which won two Western Canada Music Awards, two Canadian Folk Music Awards and was nominated for the Award for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year at the 2005 Juno Awards. In 2007, they released their third album, Key Principles, which won the award for Outstanding Roots album at the Western Canadian Music Awards and for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year (group) at the 2008 Juno Awards. [2]

Keri Latimer has also written and performed as a solo artist, [6] including contributions to the 2008 film soundtrack Frozen River [7] and the 2010 Great Canadian Song Quest. In 2015 she and husband Devin Latimer have formed the band Leaf Rapids. [5] [8]

The Duhks are a Canadian folk fusion band, formed in 2002 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Featuring banjo, fiddle, guitar, percussion, and vocals, The Duhks blend folk music together with various Canadian and American traditional styles, including soul, gospel, old-time country string, and zydeco. The band also commonly plays traditional Irish dance music, integrating Latin-influenced percussion as well as often Celtic- and Cajun-influenced fiddle-playing.

The Perpetrators are a Canadian rock / blues band formed in 1999 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The band was nominated for a 2006 Juno Award in the Blues Album of the Year category for The Gas and the Clutch.

Luke Doucet Canadian musician

Luke Doucet is a Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist. He has written and performed as a solo artist and as a member of the indie rock band Veal and the folk rock band Whitehorse.

Jenny Whiteley is a Canadian country and folk singer-songwriter. She was a member of the band Heartbreak Hill, and released several solo albums of folk music. She has won two Juno Awards for her music.

Jason Churko is a Canadian musician centered in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He is the guitarist and singer - sometimes the sole member - of the band Chords of Canada. Churko was the former frontman for Transistor Sound & Lighting Co. and is a former member of The Paperbacks. He has made guest appearances as a guitarist on the song "Gasoline" from the album Jimson Weed by Nathan, and with Winnipeg group Boats.

Eagle & Hawk is a Canadian First Nations rock group based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, active since 1994. They are most noted for winning the Juno Award for Best Music of Aboriginal Canada Recording in 2002 for their album On and On.

Burnt Project 1 is a Canadian First Nations band from Winnipeg, Manitoba. An eleven-member musical collective, the band incorporates elements of rock music, blues, jazz, funk and traditional First Nations music into its style. African, Middle Eastern and Latin beats are also included in their songs, as is a big band sound from the horn section.

Team Rezofficial are a Canadian aboriginal hip hop group. Founded by former members of War Party, the group includes musicians Karman "Hellnback" Omeosoo, Drezus, Jay Mak, Big Stomp, Lakes Aqui, Tomislav and Big Slim.

Culture of Manitoba

Manitoban culture is a term that encompasses the artistic elements that are representative of Manitoba. Manitoba's culture has been influenced by both traditional and modern Canadian artistic values, as well as some aspects of the cultures of immigrant populations and its American neighbours. In Manitoba, the Minister of Culture, Heritage, Tourism and Sport is the cabinet minister responsible for promoting and, to some extent, financing Manitoba culture. The Manitoba Arts Council is the agency that has been established to provide the processes for arts funding. The Canadian federal government also plays a role by instituting programs and laws regarding culture nationwide. Most of Manitoba's cultural activities take place in its capital and largest city, Winnipeg.

Del Barber Canadian musician

Del Barber is a Canadian independent folk, folk rock, Americana, and alternative country singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer. Barber has been nominated for and won a number of awards including a being nominated for a 2011 Juno Award for Love Songs of the Last Twenty in the category of Roots & Traditional Album of the Year - Solo. Later in 2011 he won two Western Canadian Music Awards for Independent Album of the Year and Roots Solo Recording of the Year. In 2012, Barber was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award in the category of Solo Artist of the Year. In 2013, he once again won the Roots Solo Recording of the Year for Headwaters at the Western Canadian Music Awards.

William Prince is a Canadian folk and country singer-songwriter based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, who won the Juno Award for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2017 for his debut album Earthly Days. He performs as a solo artist and alongside Vince Fontaine and Don Amero in the band Indian City.

Keri Latimer is a Canadian singer/songwriter and guitarist from Winnipeg, Manitoba. She is known for her work with the band Nathan, and has also performed as a solo artist and with the band Leaf Rapids. Latimer also plays the theremin.

Indian City is a Canadian folk-rock musical group. They are most noted for their 2017 album Here & Now, which received a Juno Award nomination for Indigenous Music Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2018.

Chic Gamine is a Canadian musical group from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Formed in 2007 by vocalists Ariane Jean, Alexa Dirks, Andrina Turenne, Annick Bremault and drummer Sacha Daoud, they began with a vocal pop style backed only by drums, but later evolved to add more instrumentation. Jean, Turenne and Bremault had previously been members of the larger vocal group Madrigaïa.

Jackson Delta are a Canadian blues musical group from Peterborough, Ontario. They are two-time Juno Award nominees for Best Roots and Traditional Album, receiving nods at the Juno Awards of 1991 for Acoustic Blues and at the Juno Awards of 1993 for I Was Just Thinking That.
