Khojavend District is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. It is located in the west of the country in the Karabakh Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Lachin, Shusha, Khojaly, Aghdam, Aghjabadi, Fuzuli, Jabrayil, and Qubadli. Its capital and largest city is Khojavend. As of 2020, the district had a nominal population of 44,100.

The Hero of the Patriotic War is the highest title in Azerbaijan. The title was created by the law "Regulations on the title of "Hero of the Patriotic War" of the Republic of Azerbaijan" dated 26 November 2020 and the decree of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev dated 1 December 2020. It was established on the occasion of Azerbaijan being the victor in the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War. Its recipient is also awarded with the Hero of the Patriotic War Medal.
The 2nd Army Corps, also referred to as the Beylagan Army Corps is a regional military formation of the Azerbaijani Land Forces. It is concentrated against Armenian occupied territories, specifically the Khojavend District, and is also partially deployed on the Azerbaijan–Iran border. It is currently led by Major General Mais Barkhudarov. It is currently deployed from Beylagan. Among their notable servicemen is Eyvaz Huseynov, the head of the Khojavend District Executive Power.
Ramiz Vagif oglu Gasimov was an Azerbaijani military officer, lieutenant colonel who served in the Air Forces of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. He had participated in the Four-Day War, the July 2020 Armenian–Azerbaijani clashes, and Second Nagorno-Karabakh War. He was killed during the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War and posthumously received the title of the Hero of the Patriotic War.
Faig Gachay oglu Gasımov was an Azerbaijani lieutenant colonel serving in the Land Forces of Azerbaijani Armed Forces. He had taken part in the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, the 2016 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, in which he was killed. He had received the title of the Hero of the Patriotic War for his service during the war.
Babak Mursal oglu Alakbarov was an Azerbaijani military officer, colonel serving in the Azerbaijan State Border Service. He had taken part in the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war. He had received the title of the Hero of the Patriotic War for his service during the war.
Gunduz Aghammad oglu Safarli, is an Azerbaijani military officer, a major serving in the special forces of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. He took part in the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, and was one of the commanders of the Azerbaijani special forces during the Battle of Shusha, for which he had received the title of the Hero of the Patriotic War.
