National College, Bengaluru is the name given to two sister institutions in Bengaluru, India: the National College Basavanagudi, founded in 1919, and the National College, Jayanagar, founded in 1965. Other related institutions, also called National College, are located in Bagepalli (Chikkaballapur District) and Gowribidanur. These institutions are managed by the National Education Society of Karnataka (NES).
National College Basavanagudi is located in Basavanagudi. It was started in the year 1920. The college was founded by Sampath Giri Rao.
Educationalist Dr. H. Narasimhaiah was the chairman of NES until his death. He also started the Bangalore Science Forum (BSF).
The National College in Jayanagar was started in 1965. It offers courses at both pre-university and degree levels in the arts and sciences including English, Kannada, Sanskrit, French, Hindi, physics, computer science, electronics, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, botany, and zoology.
The college is known for following Gandhian principles and was founded by educationalist H. Narasimhiah, a Gandhian himself and Padma Bhushan recipient.
The college has Dr. H.N. Kalakshetra on its premises who is linked with Bangalore Lalitha Kala Parishat. The college features the B.V. B.M.S. College of Engineering or Bhusanayana Mukundadas Sreenivasaiah College of Engineering (BMSCE) is a private engineering college in Basavanagudi, Bangalore, India. It was started in 1946 by Bhusanayana Mukundadas Sreenivasaiah and is run by the B.M.S. Educational Trust. It is affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University and became autonomous in 2008. BMSCE is located on Bull Temple Road, Basavanagudi, diagonally opposite to the famous Bull Temple. Though a private college, it is partially funded by the Government of Karnataka.
University of Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) was established in 1917, under the name Government Engineering College, by Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya. It is the 5th engineering college to be established in the country and 1st in Karnataka. UVCE is one of the few technical institutions in the country that is vested with the status of a university and autonomy on the lines of IITs. It is one of the oldest technical institutions in the country, imparting technical education leading to B.Tech., B. Arch., M.Tech., M. Arch. and PhD degrees in the various disciplines of Engineering and Architecture. The college is approved by the AICTE and the Government of Karnataka. UVCE has secured an NAAC accreditation score of 3.75. UVCE, while a constituent college of Bangalore University until 2022, secured an NIRF ranking of 64. The college used to receive financial aid under the TEQIP program from the World Bank.
Jayanagara is an affluent mixed residential and commercial neighbourhood in Bengaluru, India. It is one of the zones of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike. H. (Hanumanthappa) Narasimhaiah ; 6 June 1920 – 31 January 2005) was an Indian physicist, educator, writer, freedom fighter and rationalist from Karnataka. Publicly known as "HN", he was the Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University and the president of the National Education Society. He was conferred the Padma Bhushan award by the Government of India in 1984.
Basavanagudi is a residential and commercial locality in the Indian city of Bengaluru. Basavanagudi is one of the oldest localities of Bangalore evidenced by the fact that it is home to four inscriptions, three Kannada and one Tamil and also one of the poshest areas of Bangalore. It is located in South Bangalore, along the borders of Jayanagar and Lalbagh Botanical Gardens. The name "Basavanagudi" refers to the Bull Temple, which contains a monolithic statue of the Nandi Bull. The word Basava in Kannada means bull, and gudi means temple.
